CHAPTER 5 — The Secret Hidden Beneath the Restaurant

The next morning, the story exploded across social media.

"Luxury Restaurant Fires Manager After Humiliating Elderly Customer."

Millions watched the security footage.

Some praised the restaurant for correcting its mistake.

Others condemned everyone who had laughed.

Outside, reporters crowded the entrance.

Inside, however, Henry Lawson was nowhere to be found.

Michael searched every room.

The private dining room.

The kitchen.

The rooftop garden.

Nothing.

Until Elena approached him.

"Mr. Carter..."

"He left this."

She handed Michael another weathered envelope.

Inside was a handwritten note.

"Meet me in the basement. Come alone."

Michael frowned.

The basement had been closed for years.

Dust covered the old storage rooms beneath the restaurant.

As he descended the narrow staircase, memories flooded back.

The smell of fresh bread.

His father's laughter.

His mother's humming while washing dishes.

At the very end of the hallway, Henry stood beside a rusted steel door.

"You remember this place?"

Michael nodded slowly.

"My father never let anyone inside."

Henry smiled.

"He was protecting something."

From his pocket, Henry pulled out an old brass key.

The lock clicked open.

The heavy door creaked.

Behind it...

was the original kitchen.

Untouched.

Every cracked tile remained exactly where it had been twenty-eight years earlier.

The old stove.

The wooden prep table.

Even the handwritten menu still hung on the wall.

Michael couldn't breathe.

"My father kept all this..."

Henry nodded.

"He promised me he never would tear it down."

Michael's eyes filled with tears.

Then Henry pointed toward an old wooden cabinet.

"Open it."

Inside sat dozens of dusty notebooks.

Every page contained recipes...

handwritten by Michael's late father.

Beside them was a sealed video cassette labeled:

"For My Son."

Michael's hands shook.

"My father made this?"

Henry whispered,

"He made it the night he knew he was dying."

But before Michael could play the tape...

the restaurant above suddenly erupted into screaming.
