CHAPTER 3: The Woman He Begged to Remember Him

Ryan arrived at Harrington Global the next morning in the same suit he had worn the night before.
But this time, the security guard at the front desk didnât smile.
âSir, your access card has been deactivated.â
Ryanâs face turned pale.
âThere must be a mistake. I work here.â
The guard looked at the screen.
âNot anymore.â
Before Ryan could argue, the elevator doors opened.
Emily stepped out.
But she was no longer the barefoot woman crying in the snow.
She wore a black designer coat, her hair perfectly styled, with two lawyers beside her and her mother holding her arm.
Ryanâs mouth fell open.
âEmilyâŠâ
She stopped in front of him.
For the first time in years, he looked small.
Desperate.
Terrified.
âBaby, please,â he whispered. âI didnât mean what I said.â
Emily stared at him coldly.
âYou said you never wanted our child.â
Ryan swallowed hard.
âI was angry.â
âYou pushed me outside in the snow.â
âI panicked.â
âYou called me a burden.â
His lips trembled.
Then Emily placed one hand on her belly and said quietly,
âGood. Because today, Iâm removing every burden from my life.â
One lawyer stepped forward.
âMr. Carter, you are being served with divorce papers, a restraining order, and a full investigation notice for domestic abuse and attempted endangerment of an unborn child.â
Ryanâs face collapsed.
âNo⊠Emily, please.â
But then another elevator opened.
A beautiful woman in a red coat stepped out.
Ryanâs mistress.
Sabrina.
She looked confused.
âRyan? Why is security outside your office?â
Emily smiled faintly.
Then she turned to Sabrina.
âYou must be the woman he abandoned his pregnant wife for.â
Sabrina froze.
âPregnant wife?â
Ryanâs eyes widened.
âSabrina, donât listenââ
Emily handed her a folder.
Inside were photos, bank records, and messages Ryan had sent.
Messages where he called Sabrina âtemporary.â
Messages where he promised to leave her once Emilyâs inheritance was secured.
Sabrina slapped him so hard the whole lobby went silent.
âYou used me?â
Ryan stumbled backward.
But Emily wasnât finished.
She leaned closer and whispered,
âYou wanted my life insurance money, didnât you?â
Ryan stopped breathing.
Because hidden inside the folder was the one thing he never expected anyone to findâ
A signed policy.
A secret account.
And a message to his friend saying:
âOnce the baby comes, she wonât be useful anymore.â
Emilyâs mother looked at security.
âCall the police.â
Ryan tried to run.
But the doors were already locked.
And as officers walked in, Emily felt a sharp pain in her stomach.
Her water broke.
Everyone froze.
Ryan screamed her name.
But Emily didnât look back.
As she was rushed to the hospital, she held her motherâs hand and whispered:
âDonât let him near my baby.â
Hours later, Emily gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
She named her Hope.
But the biggest shock came when the nurse handed Emily an old silver bracelet found in the baby blanket her mother had saved for twenty-six years.
Inside the bracelet was engraved one name:
Ryan Carter.
Emily stared at it in horror.
May you like
Because Ryan wasnât just her cruel husband.
He was connected to the family that had stolen her as a newborn.
