CHAPTER 7: The Midnight Kidnapping

The clock on the hospital wall read 11:47 PM.
Only thirteen minutes remained.
Emily refused to let baby Hope out of her arms.
Outside her room, dozens of Harrington security guards guarded every entrance. Police officers filled the hallways, and every elevator had been locked down.
It looked impossible for anyone to get inside.
But Detective Brooks couldn't shake a terrible feeling.
"They're counting on us to watch the doors."
Emily looked up.
"What do you mean?"
Brooks walked to the window.
"The Circle never attacks where you're looking."
Suddenly—
Every light in the hospital flickered.
A nurse rushed down the hallway, screaming.
"Fire in the east wing!"
Smoke alarms exploded throughout the building.
Doctors began evacuating patients.
Families ran in panic.
Within seconds, the perfectly organized security team was divided.
Half rushed toward the fire.
The other half escorted VIP patients outside.
Brooks cursed under his breath.
"It was a distraction."
Then Victoria's phone rang.
A trembling voice came from the other end.
"Mrs. Harrington..."
"The Harrington estate is under attack."
"What?"
"The vault has been opened."
Victoria's face turned ghostly white.
"That's impossible."
"The biometric lock was activated using Emily's DNA."
Emily froze.
"I've never been there."
Brooks suddenly looked at the blood sample the hospital had collected after Hope's birth.
His eyes widened.
"Oh no..."
"They didn't need your DNA."
"They stole Hope's."
Before anyone could react—
A doctor wearing a surgical mask entered the room pushing an incubator.
"Excuse me," he said calmly.
"The baby needs another examination."
Emily held Hope tighter.
"No."
The doctor's eyes darkened.
"I wasn't asking."
He reached inside the incubator.
Instead of medical equipment...
He pulled out a silenced pistol.
Everything happened at once.
Bang!
A bodyguard dropped to the floor.
Brooks fired back.
The gunman dove behind a hospital bed.
Two more masked attackers burst through the ceiling ventilation shaft.
Glass shattered.
Bullets tore through the room.
Victoria shielded Emily with her own body.
"Run!"
Emily sprinted into the hallway carrying Hope.
The newborn began crying loudly.
Behind her—
Brooks fought three armed men alone.
One attacker shouted,
"Forget Emily!"
"Take the baby!"
Emily's heart nearly stopped.
She ran toward the emergency stairwell.
But as she pushed open the heavy metal door...
Someone was already waiting.
An elderly woman in a wheelchair.
Gray hair.
Kind smile.
She looked harmless.
Until she spoke.
"Hello, Emily."
"I've waited twenty-six years to meet my granddaughter."
Emily's blood ran cold.
"My... grandmother?"
The old woman smiled.
"Oh, no."
She slowly stood up from the wheelchair.
Perfectly healthy.
"My dear..."
"I was the one who ordered your kidnapping."
Emily couldn't breathe.
The woman stepped closer.
"Your grandfather wanted to destroy The Circle."
"So we took the only thing he loved."
She looked lovingly at baby Hope.
"And now..."
"We're taking the next generation."
Emily backed away in horror.
"What do you want from us?"
The old woman's smile disappeared.
"I don't want your daughter."
"I want what only she can open."
She raised a small golden key.
"The final vault."
Then, with chilling calm, she whispered the words that shattered Emily's world forever.
"Hope isn't the last Harrington heir."
May you like
"You have a twin brother..."
"...and we've been raising him for the past twenty-six years."
