CHAPTER 2 – The Letter That Took Everything Back

Jonathan tried to snatch the envelope from the attorney’s hand.
But the old man stepped back.
“This letter is not yours.”
Victoria’s confident smile faded.
Eleanor stood in the rain, holding her children close, as the attorney broke the seal and began reading aloud.
“My dear Eleanor… if you are hearing this, then my son has finally shown you who he truly is.”
Jonathan’s face twisted with rage.
“Stop reading!”
The attorney continued.
“I knew Jonathan would choose greed. I knew he would forget the woman who saved this family when we had nothing. That is why I changed the will.”
Victoria gasped.
Eleanor stopped breathing.
The attorney looked up.
“Effective immediately, controlling ownership of Hawthorne Global, this mansion, and all private family assets belong to Eleanor Hawthorne.”
The entire hallway went silent.
Jonathan staggered back.
“No… that’s impossible.”
The attorney turned another page.
“There is one condition: if Jonathan ever forced Eleanor or her children out of the family home, he would lose every inheritance right.”
Victoria slowly removed her hand from Jonathan’s arm.
“You told me everything was yours,” she whispered.
Jonathan’s eyes were wild now.
“It is mine!”
Then Eleanor stepped back into the mansion.
Rain dripped from her hair. Her children clung to her sides. But this time, she wasn’t begging.
She looked at the butler.
“Please take the children upstairs. They’re home.”
The butler smiled through tears.
“Yes, Madam.”
That single word hit Jonathan harder than any slap.
Madam.
Victoria backed toward the stairs, but Eleanor’s voice stopped her.
“And you…”
Victoria froze.
“Take off my robe.”
Within minutes, the woman who had laughed at Eleanor was walking out of the mansion barefoot, wrapped in a servant’s old coat.
Jonathan shouted, pleaded, threatened.
But nobody moved for him anymore.
Then Eleanor turned to him.
“You wanted me outside those gates.”
She opened the front door.
“Now it’s your turn.”
Jonathan stared at her in horror.
“You can’t do this to me.”
Eleanor’s voice was calm.
“I didn’t.”
She looked at the letter in the attorney’s hand.
“Your father did.”
As security escorted Jonathan into the storm, he screamed that Eleanor would regret it.
But Eleanor only watched him disappear into the rain.
Then the attorney leaned close and whispered the final sentence from Richard’s letter:
“Jonathan was never my blood son.”
Eleanor’s heart stopped.
Because upstairs, hidden in Richard’s private safe…
May you like
was the document that would reveal who Jonathan really was.
And why Richard had spent twenty years protecting Eleanor from him.
