CHAPTER 3 – The DNA Secret Hidden for Twenty Years

The entire mansion fell silent.

Jonathan stopped struggling against the security guards.

"What... did you just say?"

The attorney folded Richard Hawthorne's letter with trembling hands.

"There is one final instruction."

He reached into the old leather briefcase and removed a small brass key.

"Mr. Hawthorne ordered me to open his private vault only after today's events."

Eleanor frowned.

"There's another letter?"

"No."

The attorney's voice grew heavier.

"There's the truth."

Ten minutes later...

The family stood inside Richard Hawthorne's private study—a room that had remained locked since the billionaire's funeral.

Dust covered the shelves.

The fireplace was cold.

Portraits of generations of Hawthornes stared down from the walls.

At the center of the room stood an enormous steel safe hidden behind an oil painting.

The attorney inserted the brass key.

Then entered a six-digit code.

The heavy vault door slowly swung open.

Inside...

There wasn't money.

There weren't jewels.

There was only one thick red folder labeled:

CONFIDENTIAL — TO BE OPENED ONLY IF JONATHAN BETRAYS ELEANOR.

Jonathan's breathing became uneven.

Victoria stood frozen behind him.

The attorney opened the folder.

The first document slid onto the desk.

A DNA report.

Jonathan laughed nervously.

"This proves nothing."

The attorney looked directly into his eyes.

"It proves everything."

He turned the report around.

Probability that Richard Hawthorne is Jonathan Hawthorne's biological father: 0.00%.

The room exploded into silence.

Jonathan's face lost all color.

"No..."

He grabbed the report.

"This is fake!"

But beneath it...

Another document.

Then another.

Hospital records.

Adoption files.

Birth certificates.

Private investigator reports dating back twenty-three years.

Richard had documented everything.

Every page.

Every lie.

Every secret.

Eleanor couldn't believe what she was reading.

Jonathan had never been Richard's biological son.

Twenty-three years earlier...

Richard's wife had secretly exchanged her newborn after an affair with another man.

Richard discovered the truth only after Jonathan turned eighteen.

But instead of exposing the scandal...

He raised Jonathan as his own.

Hoping love would change him.

It never did.

Instead...

Jonathan became greedy.

Cruel.

Obsessed with power.

Exactly the man Richard feared he would become.

Then Eleanor noticed one final envelope hidden beneath the files.

Unlike the others...

It had her name written across the front.

She slowly opened it.

Inside was a handwritten note.

Eleanor... if you're reading this, then my greatest fear has come true. Jonathan has betrayed the only person who truly loved him. But this isn't the secret that matters most.

Her hands began shaking.

Your husband isn't the greatest lie in this family...

...your daughter isn't his child either.

Eleanor's heart stopped.

"What?"

Jonathan looked up in complete shock.

Victoria gasped.

The little girl playing quietly in the hallway looked toward the room, smiling innocently, completely unaware that her entire life was about to change.

Before anyone could speak...

The mansion's front doors burst open.

A black SUV convoy surrounded the estate.

A tall man in a military uniform stepped inside.

Without saying a word...

He looked directly at Eleanor.

Then at the little girl.

Tears filled his eyes.

Finally, he whispered seven words that left everyone frozen.

May you like

"I've spent seven years searching for my daughter."
