CHAPTER 6 — The Press Conference That Destroyed an Empire

The next morning...
Every major news network gathered outside Harrison Development headquarters.
Nobody expected Nathan Harrison to appear.
Especially not beside Emma.
When the elevator doors opened...
the room fell completely silent.
Nathan wore no expensive watch.
No designer suit.
Only a plain navy jacket.
Emma stood beside him, nervous but determined.
Behind them...
walked Ethan and Noah.
Holding each other's hands.
Nathan stepped to the microphone.
"I've spent twenty years building buildings."
He paused.
"But I failed to build the only family that mattered."
Every camera flashed.
"I want to make something perfectly clear."
"Emma Parker never lied to me."
"She never asked me for money."
"She never asked for child support."
"She never asked for anything."
"The only people who lied..."
Nathan slowly turned.
"...shared my last name."
Gasps echoed across the room.
Margaret Harrison watched the broadcast from her mansion.
Her teacup slipped from her hand.
Nathan continued.
"My mother manipulated my wife."
"She hid my unborn sons."
"She destroyed my marriage."
"And I allowed it..."
"...because I trusted power more than love."
His voice cracked.
"I will regret that for the rest of my life."
Then he reached into his pocket.
Not for legal documents.
For a small velvet box.
He knelt.
The room erupted with whispers.
Emma looked stunned.
Nathan opened the box.
Inside...
wasn't an engagement ring.
It was the old silver rocket keychain.
The one she had given him decades earlier.
"I am not asking you to marry me."
"I'm not asking you to forgive me."
"I'm not even asking you to love me again."
He looked up, tears in his eyes.
"I'm asking for the chance..."
"...to become the father our boys deserve."
The entire room held its breath.
Emma stared at him for what felt like forever.
Then Noah tugged gently on her sleeve.
"Mom..."
"Can he come to my science fair?"
Ethan added quietly,
"I think..."
"...he already loves us."
Emma closed her eyes.
A single tear rolled down her cheek.
She looked back at Nathan.
Then extended her hand.
"One day at a time."
Nathan didn't see it as a victory.
He saw it as something far more precious.
A beginning.
But neither of them noticed the man watching from the back of the press room.
A gray-haired attorney quietly closed a thick file labeled:
THE ESTATE OF ELIZABETH HARRISON.
Inside was a handwritten letter that had remained sealed for twenty-two years.
Across the front were seven chilling words:
May you like
"Open only if Nathan finds the truth."
