CHAPTER 4: The Envelope Marked "DO NOT OPEN"

Harrison thought his job was finally over.
The senator was in prison.
The corrupt airport employees had confessed.
The investigation was officially closed.
Or so everyone believed.
Three days after his retirement, a black SUV stopped outside Harrison's quiet lakeside cabin.
A young federal courier stepped out carrying a single envelope.
Across the front, in bold red letters, it read:
DO NOT OPEN UNLESS HARRISON IS RETIRED.
His hands froze.
Only one person could have written those instructions.
His former mentor...
Director William Carter.
The man who had supposedly died eight years earlier.
Inside the envelope was only one sentence.
"You arrested the wrong king."
Harrison's heartbeat stopped.
Attached was a flash drive.
He plugged it into his laptop.
The screen filled with surveillance footage.
It wasn't from the airport.
It was from inside the Department of Homeland Security.
Someone had secretly recorded dozens of classified meetings.
Cabinet officials.
Federal directors.
Corporate executives.
Every meeting ended the same way.
Large payments.
Private handshakes.
Hidden agreements.
Then the final video appeared.
The timestamp was from only 48 hours ago.
A familiar voice spoke.
"Operation Clean Sky failed."
Another voice answered.
"Then eliminate Harrison before he discovers Phase Two."
Harrison's blood ran cold.
They weren't talking about arresting him.
They were talking about killing him.
Before he could react...
The lights inside the cabin suddenly went out.
Complete darkness.
Then...
A red laser dot appeared on his living room wall.
Another landed on the window.
Then another...
Six laser sights surrounded him.
Snipers.
Someone outside shouted through a loudspeaker.
"Director Harrison!"
"Step outside with your hands where we can see them!"
But Harrison didn't move.
Instead...
He quietly smiled.
Because the cabin wasn't his home.
It was an abandoned safe house equipped years ago for exactly this situation.
He pressed a hidden switch beneath the kitchen counter.
Suddenly—
Steel shutters slammed over every window.
Smoke flooded the property.
Emergency escape tunnels beneath the floor opened automatically.
Outside, the snipers panicked.
"The target disappeared!"
Within seconds...
The cabin exploded into flames.
Television stations across America reported the same breaking news.
"Former Federal Director Harrison Killed In Cabin Explosion."
The country mourned.
His enemies celebrated.
But deep beneath the burning cabin...
Harrison was still alive.
Holding the flash drive tightly in his hand.
He whispered to himself:
"They think I'm dead..."
May you like
"Now it's finally my turn to investigate them."
To Be Continued…
