CHAP 3: THE QUEEN REVEALED

The crowd parted like the Red Sea.
Walking down the grand staircase was a woman who commanded the absolute respect of every person in the room. She was draped in a stunning midnight-blue gown, adorned with a flawless diamond necklace that was worth more than Ernesto’s entire workshop ten times over.
Flanking her were two rows of suits—lawyers, security directors, and the city’s Chief of Police himself.
It was Doña Elena Valdez.
Ernesto’s jaw dropped. He rubbed his eyes, blinking rapidly. The face of the woman standing before him was terrifyingly familiar, yet completely impossible.
"Y-You..." Ernesto stammered, his face turning pale. "The old lady... from the shop?"
Elena walked straight past the trembling Ernesto and stopped in front of Luis. She offered him a warm, motherly smile.
"Good evening, Luis," she said softly. "I see you received my invitation."
"Ma'am..." Luis whispered, his mind spinning. "You... you're..."
"My name is Elena Valdez," she said, turning to face the entire room. "And this young man, whom some of you so eagerly judged, is the most noble soul I have ever met."
The ballroom went dead silent. Ernesto looked like he was about to faint. The woman he had insulted, the woman he had threatened to kick out of his shop, was the undisputed queen of the city’s economy.
Elena turned her gaze to Ernesto, her eyes turning into two daggers of ice.
"Mr. Vance," she said, her voice carrying to every corner of the hall. "You called this young man a 'sentimental beggar.' You told him that doing the right thing doesn't pay the bills. And you humiliated him because he chose human decency over your petty greed."
"Doña Elena... please, it was a misunderstanding!" Ernesto pleaded, sweat pouring down his face. "I was just... I was trying to protect my business! I didn't know who you were!"
"Ah, yes," Elena smiled coldly. "You only show respect when you know someone has power. To the weak, the poor, and the elderly, you show only teeth. That is not the mark of a businessman, Mr. Vance. That is the mark of a parasite."
She gestured to one of her lawyers, who stepped forward with a thick leather portfolio.
"As of 4:00 PM today," Elena announced, "The Valdez Group has acquired the land deed to your workshop. Furthermore, we have purchased 100% of the debt your business owes to the national bank. We are now your sole landlord and your sole creditor."
Ernesto gasped, clutching his chest. "No... no, you can't do this!"
"Oh, but I can," Elena continued smoothly. "And because of your flagrant violations of labor laws, your unsafe working conditions, and your failure to pay your employees their legal wages—including Luis—we are calling in your entire debt immediately. You have twenty-four hours to pay the Valdez Group $1.2 million, or we foreclose on your business, your house, and your assets."
"Please! Have mercy! I'll be ruined!" Ernesto fell to his knees, sobbing openly in front of the city's highest society. The woman next to him quickly backed away, embarrassed to be associated with him.

"Mercy is earned, Mr. Vance," Elena said, looking down at him with utter disgust. "And you spent yours when you threw this boy out into the cold."
She turned back to Luis, her expression softening instantly. "Luis, my boy. This man’s reign of terror is over. But your journey is just beginning. Follow me."
