CHAP 4: THE TWIST IN THE BLOOD

In a private VIP lounge overlooking the city lights, Luis sat on a plush leather sofa, still trying to process the madness of the night. Elena sat opposite him, pouring two cups of warm tea.
"I don't know how to thank you, Doña Elena," Luis said, his voice trembling. "The money you sent... it saved my mother's life. But this... all of this is too much. I'm just a mechanic."
"You are not just a mechanic, Luis," Elena said, placing a gentle hand over his. "You are a leader. You have something that money cannot buy: integrity. That is why I am offering you the position of Director of our new charitable automotive division—a chain of state-of-the-art workshops designed to train underprivileged youth and offer free repairs to those in need."
Luis’s eyes filled with tears. "I... I accept. I will work day and night to make you proud."
"I know you will," Elena smiled.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the lounge burst open.
Alejandro, Elena’s chief of security, rushed in, his face pale. "Doña Elena, we have a major problem. Ernesto Vance has refused to leave the building. He is in the lobby... and he is making a scene. He brought a file."
Elena frowned. "Have the police arrest him."
"Ma'am... you need to see this first," Alejandro said, handing her a weathered, yellowed document. "He claims this is the real reason he kept Luis at his shop for so long, despite hating him."
Elena took the document, her eyes scanning the text. Suddenly, her breath caught. Her hands began to shake violently.
Luis stood up, alarmed. "Doña Elena? What is it?"
Elena looked up at Luis, her eyes wide with a mixture of horror and profound shock. She looked at the paper, then back at Luis’s face, tracing his jawline, his eyes, his brow.
"This... this is a birth certificate," Elena whispered, her voice cracking. "And a DNA registry."
She looked at Luis, tears spilling over her wrinkled cheeks. "Luis... your mother, Maria Romero... her maiden name was Maria Valdez."
Luis froze. "What?"
"My younger sister, Maria, ran away thirty years ago to escape our father’s strict control," Elena said, her voice shaking with immense emotion. "We searched for her for decades, but she changed her name... she hid herself so well. But Ernesto... Ernesto knew."
Elena stood up, turning her furious gaze toward the door. "Ernesto Vance didn't hire you by accident, Luis. He knew exactly who your mother was. He kept you impoverished, paying you pennies, keeping you trapped in his shop so you would never find out your true heritage—so he could use you as blackmail material against the Valdez family when the time was right!"
Before Luis could speak, the doors banged open again.

Ernesto stood there, flanked by two security guards who were struggling to hold him back. His face was twisted in a manic, desperate grin.
"That's right, Elena!" Ernesto shouted, laughing hysterically. "I knew! I've known for five years! The boy is your nephew! He is the rightful heir to half of the Valdez Group fortune! And if you ruin me, I will release the medical records showing that Maria’s illness wasn't natural—it was caused by toxic chemical exposure at my old shop, which I covered up! If I go down, I'm taking your family's name and your nephew's mother with me!"
