Chapter 5 - THE HUNTED BECOMES THE HUNTER

There was no answer.
Robert stumbled out onto the listing deck of the ship. The rain washed the blood from his suit, but he was losing strength fast. Through the blinding sheets of water, he saw a black helicopter hovering directly over the bow of the sinking ship. A searchlight cut through the storm, illuminating the deck.
A man dressed in an expensive, tailored Italian suit stepped out of the helicopter cabin onto the skids, holding a high-powered rifle.
It was the head of the Syndicate. The man behind the entire conspiracy: Marcus Vance, a Swiss billionaire and central banking magnate.
And right next to him, captured by two mercenaries, was Lily. She was kicking and screaming, her backpack ripped open, the military laptop in Vance’s hands.
"Robert Mitchell!" Vance’s voice echoed through a megaphone over the roar of the helicopter blades. "You fought well for a foster kid who crawled his way into high society! But this is where your investment hits zero!"
Robert collapsed onto his knees on the tilted deck, gasping for air. The blood loss was making his vision blur. He looked up at Lily. Her blue eyes were filled with terror, but as she looked down at him, she stopped crying.
She opened her mouth and began to sing.
Not the lullaby. It was a different French song—a sharp, rhythmic counting rhyme her mother had taught her.
Vance laughed, assuming the child had gone mad from fear. "Secure the girl! Let’s leave this trash to drown!"
But Robert understood. The counting rhyme wasn't a song. It was a sequence. A verbal kill-switch.
During his years auditing global tech firms, Robert knew that top-tier military encryptions often had an acoustic biometric backup—a specific vocal frequency and cadence that could trigger a system override. Lily wasn't singing to comfort herself; she was entering the final command into the laptop that was still within range of the ship's local satellite network.
The laptop in Vance’s hand suddenly chimed violently. The screen turned bright white.
"What is this?" Vance shouted, looking down at the device.
The screen displayed a massive, unstoppable progress bar: GLOBAL BROADCAST INITIATED. RECIPIENTS: FBI, INTERPOL, SEC, MI6, AND 500 GLOBAL MEDIA OUTLETS.
"Shut it down! Shut it down!" Vance screamed at his tech specialist inside the chopper.
"I can't, sir!" the technician yelled back in pure panic. "The data is mirroring across a decentralized blockchain! Every bank account, every shell company, every corrupt transaction... it’s all going public in thirty seconds!"
Vance’s face twisted into a mask of pure demonic rage. He looked down at Lily, raising his rifle. "You little brat..."
"NO!" Robert roared.
With the last ounce of strength in his body, Robert lunged toward the ship's heavy cargo crane controls. He grabbed the manual release override and slammed it down.
A massive, five-ton iron shipping container suspended above the deck swung violently through the air like a wrecking ball. The heavy iron container smashed directly into the tail rotor of the hovering helicopter.
Sparks exploded into the night sky. The helicopter spun out of control, its alarms blaring as it began to crash toward the ocean. In the chaos, the mercenary holding Lily lost his grip. Lily jumped from the skid, falling toward the tilted, slippery deck of The Leviathan.

Robert sprinted forward, ignoring the agonizing pain in his shoulder, and threw his body across the wet iron deck, catching Lily by her arms just as she slid toward the edge of the sinking ship.
Behind them, the Syndicate's helicopter crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in a massive ball of fire and twisted metal, sinking instantly into the abyss.
