Chapter 4 - THE COUNTER-ATTACKThe civil court summons arrived at my base quarters on a Friday morning.

It was a formal order demanding my personal appearance at a deposition in downtown Raleigh within ten days, accompanied by full financial disclosures spanning the last ten years. Attached to it was an affidavit signed by Vanessa Parker, claiming that I had fraudulently withheld generational assets belonging to her husband’s lineage through deception and breach of fiduciary trust.
I didn't panic. Instead, I drove straight to the base legal office and requested a temporary leave extension, citing urgent personal litigation.
Simultaneously, I executed Phase Two of Walter’s strategy.
We didn't just file a motion to dismiss. We filed a cross-motion for sanctions, accompanied by a counter-suit against Preston Cole for barratry, malicious prosecution, and filing fraudulent legal instruments without a verified power of attorney.
More importantly, Walter had dug up something deeply interesting about Vanessa’s past.
Before she married my father, Vanessa had left a trail of financial wreckage across three different counties in Virginia and the Carolinas—including two undisclosed prior marriages that ended under suspicious circumstances involving rapidly depleted joint accounts and elderly spouses who suddenly found themselves stripped of their properties.
My father was walking blindly into a trap, and Vanessa thought she had locked the door behind him.

On Monday evening, I received a text message from an unknown number. It was a photo of my father sitting alone on a park bench, looking exhausted and frail, with Vanessa standing a few feet away talking on her phone.
Beneath the photo was a single line of text from Vanessa’s personal number: Drop the defense, or your father pays the price.
