Chapter 1 - THE ACCUSATION IN THE BLUE LIGHT

Hook: A dangerous promise under the neon glow. The bass of Eclipse pulsed through the floorboards, vibrating right up into the soles of Angel’s heels. Dorian’s hand didn’t touch her—not yet—but the sheer heat radiating from his body was enough to trap her against the edge of the velvet-roped VIP section.
“You think this is a game, Angel?” Dorian’s voice was a low, lethal rasp that cut right through the thumping music. His dark eyes scanned her face, tracing the sharp line of her jaw, the curve of her collarbone, and finally, the emerald green silk that hugged her waist. “I gave you a warning. I told you what would happen if you wore that dress around me again.”
Angel didn’t flinch. She leaned in closer, the scent of her expensive perfume mingling with the rich aroma of his cologne and the underlying metallic tang of danger that always followed him. “I remember what you said, Dorian. But last time I checked, you don’t own the city yet. And you definitely don’t own me.”
Dorian’s jaw clenched so hard a muscle ticked beneath his sun-tanned skin. He took a step forward, completely erasing the polite distance between them. His hand shot out, his long, scarred fingers wrapping securely around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest. The contact was electric, a sudden spark that threatened to burn down the entire club.
From the edge of the dance floor, Henry froze, his popcorn long forgotten, while Deb gripped Henry’s arm in sheer panic. The security guards around the perimeter immediately turned their backs, forming a human wall to give their boss privacy. They knew better than to witness Dorian Esposito losing his mind over a woman.
“You’re playing with fire, Angel,” Dorian whispered, his lips brushing against the shell of her ear. “My family is signing a treaty with the Maros tomorrow morning. If Greta or her father see you looking at me like this, they won’t just come for me. They will erase you.”
“Let them try,” Angel breathed, her heart hammering against her ribs, though her eyes remained defiant. “I’m tired of watching you live a life dictated by old men in dark rooms, Dorian. If you’re going to sell your soul to the Maro family, look me in the eyes while you do it.”
Dorian gripped her tighter, his thumb digging into the soft satin at her hip. For a terrifying, beautiful second, Angel thought he was going to kiss her right there on the crowded dance floor. His eyes darkened, filled with a raw, predatory hunger that made her knees go weak. He wanted to drag her upstairs, lock the door, and fulfill the promise he had made her a year ago.
But before his lips could touch hers, a cold, sharp voice pierced the heavy tension.
“Dorian? What is the meaning of this?”
Dorian didn’t release Angel immediately. He took a slow, deliberate breath, his eyes locked on Angel’s for one last agonizing moment before he turned his head.
Standing at the edge of the VIP lounge was Greta Maro. She looked like a winter storm wrapped in white Chanel—her platinum blonde hair perfectly pinned back, her eyes blue and sharp as shards of ice. Flanking her were four heavy-set Maro family enforcers, their hands resting heavy inside their tailored jackets.
Angel felt the temperature in the room drop to absolute zero.
Greta looked at Angel’s green dress, then at Dorian’s hand which was still resting on Angel’s hip. A cruel, ugly smile spread across the heiress’s face.
“I see you’re playing with the local trash again, darling,” Greta said, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. “Should I have my father’s men clean up the club, or are you going to throw this garbage out yourself?”
Dorian slowly let his hand drop from Angel’s waist, stepping in front of her to shield her from Greta’s guards. The air in the club grew so thick it felt impossible to breathe.
“She’s leaving, Greta,” Dorian said, his voice dropping into a deadly, flat monotone. “Go back upstairs.”
“Oh, she’s leaving alright,” Greta sneered, snapping her fingers. Her four guards stepped forward, eyes locked onto Angel. “But she’s not walking out. She’s going to learn what happens when you touch what belongs to the Maro family.”

Angel felt her adrenaline spike. She didn’t run. She stood her ground, her fingers tightening around her clutch. But Dorian didn’t hesitate. In one lightning-fast motion, he drew a sleek black pistol from his jacket, pointing it directly at the lead guard's forehead.
“Step back,” Dorian roared, the raw authority of a mafia boss echoing louder than the bass. “Touch her, and the treaty dies tonight along with all of you.”
