Chapter 7 - THE UNRAVELING SECRETHook Headline: THE VILLAINS WERE BEHIND BARS, BUT A HIDDEN LETTER IN THE MATTRESS REVEALED AN EVEN WORSE TRUTH!

Two weeks had passed since the arrest of Victoria and Ricardo. The news had exploded across every major media outlet in the country. “MILITARY HERO EXPOSES FAMILY MOTHERMIND IN MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR FRAUD SYNDICATE” read the headlines.

The court had rapidly frozen all accounts, returning full ownership of the business, the accounts, and the estate to Elena and me. Ricardo was facing twenty years in federal prison without possibility of parole, while Victoria’s lawyers were desperately trying to negotiate a plea deal to avoid dying in a cell.

Yet, despite the victory, a strange gloom hovered over the mansion.

Elena and I decided to renovate the house completely, stripping away every piece of furniture, every rug, and every painting chosen by my mother, aiming to erase her dark ghost from our lives.

On a quiet Tuesday afternoon, while workers were clearing out Victoria’s private bedroom suite on the third floor, a contractor called me upstairs.

“Mr. Vance,” the contractor said, pointing to a tear in the hollow lining of Victoria’s antique mahogany headboard. “We found this stuffed inside the wood paneling while breaking down the frame.”

He handed me a dusty, yellowed envelope sealed with red wax. On the front, in faded ink, was my father’s handwriting, addressed to: “TO MY SON, ALEJANDRO. READ ONLY IF I DIE UNEXPECTEDLY.”

My heart hammered against my ribs. My father had passed away suddenly five years ago from what doctors diagnosed as a sudden cardiac arrest. It was his death that had left Victoria in total control of the family estate.

I sat down on the bare wooden floor, my hands trembling as I broke the wax seal and unfolded the aging parchment inside.

Elena walked into the room, seeing my pale expression. “Alejandro? What is that?”

I began reading aloud, my voice trembling with every word:

“My dearest Alejandro,

If you are reading this, it means I am gone, and the poison Victoria has been putting in my evening tea for the past two years has finally finished its work.”

Elena let out a sharp gasp, dropping the box she was holding.

“I discovered six months ago that Victoria was not my legally wedded wife in the eyes of the law. She had married a man in Europe thirty years ago and never divorced him—making our marriage a total fraud. More importantly, Alejandro, I learned the truth about Ricardo. He is not my son. He is the biological child of her foreign accomplice.

You, Alejandro, are my only true heir. Everything I built belongs to you alone. I hid the original copy of my un-amended Will inside the wall safe of the estate’s private chapel. Do not let her destroy you as she has destroyed me.

With all my love, Father.”

I stared at the paper, frozen in shock.

Victoria hadn't just tortured Elena. She hadn't just stolen our company. She had murdered my father five years ago to steal his empire—and Ricardo wasn't even my brother.
