Chapter 8 - THE FINAL REVENGE & A NEW BEGINNINGHook Headline: HE VISITED HIS MOTHER IN PRISON ONE LAST TIME TO DELIVER THE TRUTH THAT BROKE HER SPIRIT FOREVER!

The visiting room at the maximum-security federal penitentiary was cold, sterile, and smelled faintly of floor bleach.

Doña Victoria sat across the glass barrier, wearing an oversized orange jumpsuit. Her silver hair was unkempt, her skin gray and wrinkled without her expensive creams and jewelry. Yet, her eyes still burned with stubborn, arrogant pride.

“Did you come to gloat, Alejandro?” she asked, her voice raspy through the intercom speaker. “Are you happy now that you’ve thrown your own mother into a cage?”

I sat down calmly in the metal chair across from her. I didn't look at her with anger. I looked at her with complete, absolute indifference.

“You aren't my mother, Victoria,” I said softly.

She sneered. “Don't be dramatic. I gave birth to you.”

I pulled out a copy of the newly opened Will from my father’s chapel safe, along with the autopsy report that federal investigators had conducted after exhuming my father’s body three days ago.

I pressed the documents against the glass panel.

“Father’s autopsy came back positive for long-term arsenic poisoning,” I said, watching the color drain from her face in real-time. “The prosecutors have just added First-Degree Capital Murder to your indictment. You won't be spending twenty years here, Victoria. You will spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security cell without the possibility of parole.”

Victoria’s hands began to shake violently against the counter. “He… he wrote a letter…” she whispered, her voice cracking.

“Yes,” I said. “He also documented your bigamy. Ricardo is not his son. And under the original Will, neither you nor Ricardo ever had a legal right to a single cent of the Vance estate.”

“Alejandro… please…” Victoria choked out, her arrogant demeanor collapsing into pathetic, terrified begging. She slammed her hands against the glass. “I raised you! I protected the family name! You can’t leave me to die in this place! Tell the prosecutors it was all Ricardo! Save your mother!”

I slowly stood up from the chair.

“My mother died five years ago when you poisoned my father,” I said coldly. “The woman sitting in front of me is just a murderer paying her debt.”

I turned my back on her screams and walked out of the visitor room, leaving her behind the heavy steel security doors forever.

ONE YEAR LATERThe spring sun warmed the terrace of our freshly restored estate. The heavy black curtains were gone, replaced by light, floating white silk that danced in the warm afternoon breeze. The sound of construction and fear had been replaced by the quiet melody of classical music spilling from the open windows.

Elena stood by the garden rosebushes, wearing a white sundress, her skin glowing with health and life. The dark bruises of the past were completely gone, replaced by a radiant smile that reached her bright, happy eyes. Around her neck, the silver heart-shaped locket caught the golden sunlight.

I walked up behind her, wrapping my arms gently around her waist, resting my chin on her shoulder. She didn't flinch. She leaned back against my chest, placing her hands over mine.

“What are you thinking about?” I asked, kissing her cheek softly.

“I was thinking about how dark the world felt six months ago,” she murmured, turning in my arms to look up at me. “I thought I was completely lost, Alejandro. I thought love couldn't win against that kind of evil.”

“And now?” I asked gently.

Elena took my hand and pulled it down, resting my palm gently against her stomach. A soft, tearful smile illuminated her face.

“Now,” she whispered, “I know that true love doesn't just survive the storm—it rebuilds everything the storm tried to destroy.”

I looked at her, stunned, as the realization washed over me. I pulled her close, lifting her up in a tight, joyful embrace beneath the bright blue sky.

The nightmare was finally over. Our home was ours again, our family’s honor was restored, and a new life was about to begin.
