Chapter 5 - Unholy Alliance"You're... Mia's mother?" I stared at her in disbelief. "Why are you doing this? You left your baby!"

"I didn't leave her, you idiot," Elena sneered, taking two steps forward, the suppressor on her gun never wavering from my chest. "I poisoned her food just enough to make her reject her formula. The goal was to force Michael to take her to a high-end medical facility in Miami so my team could ambuscade his motorcade. But you... you stupid, bleeding-heart widow... you ruined everything by feeding her yourself!"

My stomach plummeted. "You... you poisoned your own daughter?!"

"She's a bargaining chip, nothing more," Elena hissed. "And now that you know too much, you're collateral damage."

Elena pulled the trigger.

THWIP!

The silenced shot echoed, but the bullet didn't hit me.

A heavy body slammed into Elena from the side, tackling her into a glass display case that shattered into a million pieces.

It was Michael.

He wrestled the gun from Elena’s grip, his face contorted in demonic rage. He pinned her to the floor, his heavy boot pressing against her throat.

"You poisoned our daughter?" Michael roared, his voice shaking the entire room. "You put poison in Mia's body?!"

"She... she's not... yours..." Elena choked out through bruised lips, a malicious smile breaking across her face. "Check... the DNA... you bastard..."

Michael froze.

Taking advantage of his shock, Elena pulled a hidden knife from her boot and slashed Michael’s leg. He grunted in pain, stepping back, and Elena scrambled through the shattered glass, diving out the floor-to-ceiling window into the rain-drenched courtyard below.
