Chapter 7 - FIRE ON THE RIDGEThe rain poured down in sheets over the Tepatitlán agricultural complex. Lightning illuminated the massive steel grain silos that towered like metallic giants over the landscape.

Outside the main gates, a crowd of news reporters, federal agents, and local workers had gathered. Arturo’s private security team held the perimeter line, ensuring no unauthorized vehicles entered the contested property.
Suddenly, a heavy armored SUV breached the outer perimeter fence at sixty miles per hour, smashing through the wooden security gates and screeching to a halt near the primary control tower of the grain facility!
The door flew open, and Eduardo Salcedo stepped out, wearing a heavy raincoat, holding a military assault rifle in one hand and the black detonator case in the other. Beside him was Vance, his face pale with utter terror.
"EVERYONE BACK OFF!" Eduardo’s voice echoed through the megaphone attached to the SUV. "BACK OFF OR I PRESS THIS BUTTON AND BLOW THIS FACILITY TO ASHES!"
The crowd gasped in horror. Federal marshals immediately drew their sidearms, taking cover behind their patrol cars.
"He's lost his mind!" a marshal shouted. "He's got the master detonator!"
High above on the metal catwalk of Silo 1, Gabriel Barragán watched through a pair of tactical binoculars. He was dressed in his old military tactical vest, his face calm and unyielding. Beside him, Nicolás was monitoring the plant's structural telemetry on a rugged military laptop.
"Dad," Nicolás whispered, his voice steady despite the adrenaline surging through his veins. "The signal from that detonator uses a legacy radio frequency. If he presses that button, the electrical impulse will trigger the thermite charges in the basement of Silo 3 within three seconds."
"Can you jam the signal?" Gabriel asked.
"I can," Nicolás said, typing rapidly on his keyboard. "But I need to be within ten meters of his detonator box to override his transmitter with my local frequency scrambler. If I'm any further, the signal will bleed through."
Gabriel looked at his son. "You stay here and hold the jammer. I'm going down there."
"Dad, no! He will shoot you on sight!"
Gabriel placed his hand on Nicolás's cheek, looking into his eyes with deep, paternal warmth. "He tried to break you, son. He tried to teach you that our family is worthless. Today, we show him what a real father does."
Gabriel stepped onto the iron staircase and began his descent into the rain-soaked storm.
Below, Eduardo was screaming at the marshals, his finger resting lightly on the red detonator switch. "Where is he?! Where is that worm Nicolás?! Bring him to me! I want him to watch his legacy burn!"
"You don't need to look for my son, Eduardo!"
A clear, powerful voice echoed through the storm.
Eduardo turned abruptly. Walking slowly out of the shadows of the central warehouse, drenched in the pouring rain, was Gabriel Barragán. Unarmed. Walking with the slow, deliberate confidence of a man who feared nothing on earth.
Eduardo’s eyes widened with pure hatred. "Gabriel..." he hissed, raising his rifle and aiming it directly at Gabriel's chest. "You old fool. You should have stayed in your little cabin. You should have let me finish your son at the ravine!"
"You couldn't finish him then, Eduardo," Gabriel said, stepping closer, his boots splashing through the puddles. "And you can't finish us now."
"I have the power to destroy everything!" Eduardo shrieked, waving the detonator. "I have billions! I have control! What do you have?!"
Gabriel stopped ten feet away from the tyrant.
"I have a family that loves each other," Gabriel said softly. "I have honor. And most importantly, Eduardo..."
May you like
Gabriel pointed up toward the catwalk.
"...I have a son who is smarter than you could ever dream of being."
