Chapter 7 - The Phoenix RISINGTwo weeks later, the Coral Gables mansion was unrecognizable.

The heavy iron gates had been repainted in a sleek, modern matte black, and a discreet, elegant bronze plaque now hung beside the entrance:
“THE VANCE FOUNDATION FOR MATERNAL HEALTH AND RESEARCH.”
Inside, the grand estate had been transformed into a state-of-the-art research and support center. Bright, airy offices replaced the empty formal dining rooms where Evelyn used to host her pretentious tea parties. Medical professionals, researchers, and counselors walked the hallways, bringing life, healing, and purpose to a home that had once been built on betrayal and deceit.
I stood on the second-floor balcony, looking out over the lush green gardens where that absurd, doomed wedding had taken place just half a month ago.
My phone buzzed in my hand. It was a notification from the federal bankruptcy court: Spencer’s assets had been completely liquidated, his corporate licenses permanently revoked, and he was currently facing a mandatory fifteen-year prison sentence with no possibility of parole. Penelope had successfully annulled her marriage and permanently relocated to Europe under her mother's maiden name. Evelyn had been forced to downroot her entire lifestyle and move into a modest suburban apartment, her social circle vanishing the moment her money ran dry.
Julian stepped out onto the balcony, handing me a crystal flute filled with sparkling water.
“To new beginnings,” Julian toasted, clinking his glass against mine.
“To never hiding your strength again,” I replied, taking a sip as the warm Florida breeze swept through my hair.
The journey had been long, painful, and littered with the wreckage of a man who mistook kindness for weakness and loyalty for stupidity. But as I looked down at the thriving foundation below, I knew the truth.

I hadn't just taken back what was mine.
