Chapter 5 - The Intruder in the FoyerThe voice belonged to Richard Vance—Vivian’s older brother and a ruthless real estate mogul who controlled half the commercial zoning boards in Cook County.

He marched into the foyer flanked by two burly private security guards in dark suits. His face was purple with rage, his expensive silk tie slightly crooked.
“Richard,” Grant said, his voice instantly shifting from warm fatherly devotion to glacial, predatory coldness. He gently stepped in front of me, shielding me and the children with his broad shoulders. “You are trespassing on private property. You have sixty seconds before my security team throws you into Lake Michigan.”
“You think you can ruin my family and get away with it?” Richard snarled, pointing a shaking finger past Grant’s shoulder right at me. “You traded my sister for a low-class foster brat! A nobody maid who probably engineered the whole thing to trap a billionaire! I’m going to destroy you, Calloway. And as for this little tramp—”
Richard lunged forward, his hand raised to strike me.
He didn’t even make it halfway.
Grant moved with terrifying, blinding speed. In less than a second, Grant caught Richard’s wrist in an iron grip, twisting it upward with a sickening crack of bone. Richard shrieked in agony, dropping to his knees as Grant forced him down onto the marble floor.
“If you ever,” Grant whispered, his voice vibrating with a dark, primal fury that made the security guards step back in sheer terror, “point a finger at Nora again, I won't just ruin your business. I will dismantle your entire family legacy piece by brick, starting with you.”
“I’ll… I’ll sue you! You’ll lose everything!” Richard choked out, tears of pain streaming down his face.
“Sue me with what money?” Grant replied coolly, releasing Richard’s wrist and letting him collapse onto the floor like a broken doll. “As of three minutes ago, my corporate accounts bought your primary debtors. Your company is bankrupt, Richard. You’re broke. Get out of my house before I have you arrested for stalking.”
Richard scrambled backward on his hands and knees, terrified out of his mind, before bolting out the front door and slamming it behind him.
The foyer fell dead silent once more.
Noah and Lily stood by the sunroom door, their eyes wide, watching their father with a mix of awe and absolute adoration.
Grant let out a slow breath, shaking out his hands, before turning around to face me. The terrifying monster of Chicago commerce vanished instantly, replaced by a man looking at me with undisguised vulnerability and burning devotion.
“Are you alright, Nora?” he asked, stepping close and checking my face as if searching for any invisible harm.
“I’m… I’m fine,” I breathed, my heart hammering wildly against my ribs. “You didn't have to bankrupt a man for me, Mr. Calloway.”
“Grant,” he corrected gently, his hand lingering on my arm, warm and grounding. “And yes, I did. Because in twenty-four hours, Nora Lane, you’ve become the anchor of this family. And nobody touches what belongs to me.”
Before I could answer, Lily ran up and hugged my knees. “Nora is staying forever, right Daddy?”
May you like
Grant smiled down at his daughter, his gray eyes shining with a profound, unbreakable promise.
“Forever, sweetheart,” Grant said softly, never breaking eye contact with me. “Forever.”
