Chapter 2 - The Price of Discarded Lives"Vance," Marcus choked out, trying to maintain a shred of bravado. "I heard you had a stray cat in your penthouse. I’m here to collect my wife and the girls. They’re mine. I have the law on my side."

The air in the room temperature seemed to drop twenty degrees. Elias didn't shout. He didn't argue. He walked forward until he was mere inches from Marcus, looming over him like a tombstone. "The law?" Elias whispered, his voice dangerously soft. "You dumped a mother and two hours-old infants on the freezing pavement to die. In my world, that isn't a domestic dispute. That’s a death sentence."

"They're my children!" Marcus shouted, his voice cracking. "I can do what I want with them!"

Elias leaned in, his breath a cold draft against Marcus’s ear. "They were yours. Now, they belong to the only man in New York who doesn't care about the law. You’re not here to collect anything, Marcus. You’re here to say goodbye to the world."
