Chapter 6 - The Demon’s ReturnJust as the assassin moved toward the bookshelf, the bedroom door exploded outward. A figure moved faster than humanly possible—Elias. He didn't use a gun. He tackled the assassin with a primal, terrifying rage. The sound of bones snapping filled the room. Ava remained silent, paralyzed, until the room went still.
Elias stood over the body, his shirt torn, his hands covered in blood. He rushed to the bookshelf, frantically overriding the lock. When the door opened and he saw Ava and the twins, his entire posture collapsed into relief. He reached out, his hands shaking as he touched Ava’s face. "I told you... I told you you were safe," he growled.
"You almost died," Ava whispered.
"I don't care," he replied, pulling them all into his arms. "As long as you’re breathing, I don't care about anything else."
