Chapter 3 - A Father’s Worst NightmareAva watched from the shadows, her hands pressed tightly over her mouth to stifle a scream. She expected Elias to kill him right there, but he did something far more cruel. He stepped back and signaled to his men. "Take him to the basement. Keep him conscious. I want him to hear every report of his assets being liquidated until he has nothing left but the clothes on his back."

As the guards dragged a screaming Marcus away, Elias turned back to Ava. The room felt smaller now, the tension thick and suffocating. He walked over to the bassinet where the twins, Lily and Rose, were sleeping peacefully, oblivious to the fact that their mother had just been saved from the brink of oblivion. "He won't be coming back for them, Ava," Elias said, his gaze softening as he looked at the babies. "But he isn't the only one who wants what’s mine."

"What's yours?" Ava asked, her voice trembling. "I'm not yours, Elias."

He turned to her, his gaze intense. "You are under my protection. And in this city, that means you are the most dangerous woman alive. Because everyone will try to go through you to get to me."
