Chapter 8 - THE BOARDROOM COUPThe tension in the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor was thick enough to cut with a knife.

Twelve members of Alcocer Global’s board of directors sat around the massive, oval mahogany table. They were wealthy, powerful men and women who had spent decades riding the coattails of Alejandro’s ruthless business genius. But fear is a powerful motivator, and panic over Alejandro's sudden, unpredictable crusade of accountability had driven them into open rebellion.

Rodrigo Alcocer stood at the head of the table, looking like a man who believed he had already won the crown.

The heavy double doors swung open, and Alejandro walked in. He wasn't alone. Walking right beside him—calm, composed, and holding a thick leather portfolio—was Mariana Rivas.

A murmur of shock and absolute indignation rippled through the board members. Several elderly directors adjusted their glasses, staring at Mariana as if she were an alien species.

"Alejandro," spoke up Carlos Mendoza, the senior-most board member and a longtime ally of Rodrigo. "What is the meaning of this? This is a private, confidential meeting of the board of directors. An unauthorized civilian has no right to be in this room."

"Mariana is not a civilian, Carlos," Alejandro said calmly, taking his seat at the center of the table while Mariana remained standing quietly by his side. "She is the new Senior Director of our Foundation. And she has every right to hear what is about to be discussed."

Rodrigo smirked, standing up from his chair and leaning over the table. "Save your breath, Uncle. We aren't here to talk about your charity pet projects. We are here to invoke Section 14 of the corporate charter."

Rodrigo reached into his briefcase and pulled out a formal legal document, slamming it down onto the polished wood.

"A supermajority of the board has signed a vote of no confidence," Rodrigo announced, his voice echoing triumphantly across the room. "You are officially suspended from your duties as CEO, effective immediately, due to erratic behavior, reckless financial self-sabotage, and gross negligence of shareholder value. I have been appointed as interim CEO by unanimous emergency consensus."

Silence descended upon the room. All eyes turned toward Alejandro, waiting for him to rage, to shout, to break under the pressure.

Instead, Alejandro let out a calm, quiet chuckle.

He leaned back in his leather chair, crossing his arms over his chest. "Section 14, Rodrigo? Really? You dug up that dusty old clause from the nineteen-eighties?"

"It’s legally binding," Rodrigo snapped, his confidence faltering slightly at his uncle's unnerving calm. "Sign the transfer of authority papers right now, or we will drag you through a humiliating public court battle that will tank our stock prices to zero."

"You assume," Alejandro said softly, his eyes narrowing with a predatory glint, "that you actually have the votes, Rodrigo."

Rodrigo frowned, looking around the table at the twelve board members. "Every single person in this room signed the petition. It’s a done deal."

"Is it?" Alejandro tilted his head toward Mariana. "Mariana, would you be so kind as to present our guests with the updated ledger?"

Mariana stepped forward. She opened her leather portfolio, pulled out a stack of pristine, freshly printed financial audits, and began distributing them swiftly and professionally to every single board member.

Rodrigo snatched one of the papers off the table, his eyes scanning the numbers. As he read, the arrogant smirk on his face instantly dissolved into a mask of pure, unadulterated horror.

The color drained completely from his cheeks, and his hands began to shake violently.
