Chapter 8 - DAWN OF THE EMPIREThe sun broke over the Mediterranean horizon, painting the sky in violent shades of orange, gold, and crimson.

Aboard the private Gulfstream flying back toward New York, the cabin was silent except for the steady hum of the jet engines. Kate sat by the window, sipping a glass of chilled sparkling water, watching the endless expanse of blue ocean stretch out beneath them.
Damon sat across the aisle, reviewing a digital manifest on his tablet. He looked up, catching her reflection in the glass.
"You destroyed a three-decade-old syndicate in forty-eight hours," Damon noted, a hint of genuine awe in his voice. "Viktor Vance is currently in the custody of French maritime authorities, and his entire empire has been dismantled from the inside out."
"I told you," Kate turned her head, a quiet, confident smile gracing her lips. "I know how to clean house."
Damon closed his tablet, locked it, and set it aside. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, studying her with an intensity that went far deeper than business or professional respect.
"When I found you in that storage room two months ago," Damon said softly, "you told me you were just a maid trying to pay her mother's hospital bills. You thought your entire life was defined by how invisible you could make yourself."
"My mother taught me that survival meant disappearing," Kate replied, her voice steady, carrying no trace of the old fear. "She was wrong. Survival means making sure no one ever dares to look at you the wrong way again."
Damon reached across the aisle, extending his hand. Not as a boss to an employee. Not as a savior to a victim. But as an equal.
"Kate Bennett," Damon said, his eyes locking onto hers with absolute finality. "Do you want to run the rest of the world with me?"
Kate looked at his hand, then up into his eyes. The little girl who used to hide in corners, biting her cheek to keep from crying, was gone. In her place stood a queen.
She placed her hand firmly in his grip.

"Let's begin," she said.
And as the private jet punched through the clouds toward the morning sun, the new empire of the Blackwell dynasty officially began.
