Chapter 11 - The New EmpireThe emergency backup generator kicked in fifteen seconds later, flooding the study with the harsh, sterile glow of recessed LED ceiling lights.

Julian Vance lay sprawled across the broken shards of the porcelain vase, blood pooling from a deep gash on his temple, his custom pistol kicked ten feet away into the corner. Above him stood Alessandro Moretti, his tuxedo jacket torn at the shoulder, his face cold, impassive, and absolute.
At the open doorway, Victor Romano stood flanked by four Moretti guards, holding a secure satellite terminal displaying a live video feed from a remote mountain bunker in the Alps. Alessandro looked down at Julian Vance, who was gasping for air, clutching his bleeding head.
"You... you can't kill me," Julian wheezed, spitting a drop of blood onto the pristine white rug. "The Syndicate tribunal will hunt you to the ends of the earth. The entire Mediterranean network will collapse without my clearance codes."
Alessandro knelt slowly beside him, his face inches from Julian's ear. He didn't raise his voice. He spoke with the quiet finality of a graveyard.

"The Mediterranean doesn't belong to the Syndicate anymore, Julian," Alessandro whispered. "It belongs to the Moretti name. And my sister is coming home for dinner tomorrow."
He stood up, adjusted his cuffs, and offered a hand to Sophia, who was still trembling on the stone floor. She took his hand, her fingers warm and steady now, as they walked together out of the study, leaving the ghosts of the past locked forever behind them.
