Chapter 5 - THE ESCAPE AND THE BETRAYAL 🩸The room went deathly silent.

Khloe sat frozen on the hospital bed, her hands pressed against her belly. The child growing inside her wasn't just a symbol of a broken marriage or a tool for revenge. It was a living, breathing bio-engineered breakthrough—her father's ultimate legacy, resurrected by the very man she hated most.

"You're a monster," Khloe whispered, tears finally overflowing her eyes. "He's a monster!"

"Marcus is a visionary," Dr. Rostova corrected coldly. "And now, Mrs. Thorne, you are coming with us to our secure facility in Iceland, where you will be monitored until delivery."

Dr. Rostova gestured to the two armed security guards. They stepped forward, reaching for Khloe’s arms.

BANG!

A deafening gunshot shattered the silence.

Dr. Rostova gasped as a crimson stain bloomed across her shoulder. She collapsed to the floor, screaming in pain.

Before the two guards could draw their weapons, Dr. Arthur Vance pulled a heavy concealed pistol from under his doctor's coat and fired two rapid shots. The guards collapsed to the ground, neutralized instantly.

"Khloe! Get up! NOW!" Dr. Vance yelled, grabbing a surgical blade from the tray and slicing through Khloe’s IV lines.

"Uncle Arthur—"

"There's no time!" Arthur barked, his face frantic. "The police downstairs are compromised! Marcus's men are surrounding the building! We have to get to the helipad on the roof!"

Khloe didn't hesitate. Driven by pure survival instinct, she threw off her bedsheets, barefoot and in her stained white dress, and ran out of the room behind her uncle.

They sprinted through the dark, abandoned service corridors of the hospital. Emergency alarms began to blare across the building. Red strobe lights flashed against the walls, casting blood-colored shadows over their path.

"The roof door is locked!" Khloe cried as they reached the final stairwell, panting heavily, her body aching from the physical trauma of the earlier assault.

Arthur pulled a master keycard from his pocket, swiping it through the reader. The heavy steel door clicked open, revealing the cold, wind-swept rooftop.

A sleek black helicopter sat waiting on the pad, its rotors already spinning rapidly, cutting through the night air with a deafening thump-thump-thump.

"Get in!" Arthur yelled over the roar of the engines, guiding Khloe toward the helicopter door.

Khloe climbed inside, collapsing onto the leather seats, her heart hammering against her ribs. Arthur climbed in after her, slamming the door shut. The helicopter immediately lifted off, rising into the stormy sky above the city skyline.

Khloe looked out the window, watching the hospital shrink into the distance. She turned to her uncle, wiping tears from her eyes.

"Uncle Arthur... did you know?" Khloe asked, her voice cracking. "Did you know Marcus cloned my father's DNA? Did you know what was inside me?"

Arthur sat across from her. He calmly pulled out a silk handkerchief and wiped the gunpowder residue from his hands.

He didn't look at her with sympathy. He didn't look at her like a loving uncle.

Slowly, a cold, unfamiliar smile spread across Arthur Vance’s face.

"Of course I knew, Khloe," Arthur said softly. "Who do you think provided Marcus with your father's cellular samples seven months ago?"
