Chapter 4 - MORNING LIGHT AND BROKEN PROMISESThe morning sun filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the East Wing suite, painting the plush white carpet in warm ribbons of gold.

Riley woke up with a start, her muscles tensing out of pure survival habit before she remembered where she was.
The bed beneath her was softer than anything she had ever touched in her life—sheets of Egyptian cotton that smelled faintly of lavender. Across the room, in a brand-new wooden crib that had magically appeared overnight, little Aria was sleeping peacefully, her breathing regular and deep. Dr. Vance had come at 2:00 a.m., administering antibiotics and declaring the baby’s fever broken.
There was a soft knock at the double doors.
“Come in,” Riley said, her voice still cautious.
The door opened, and Olivia peeked in, holding a silver tray with a warm glass of milk and fresh pastries. Behind her walked Michael, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, looking every bit the multi-billionaire tech titan.
“Morning, Riley,” Michael said with a gentle smile. “How’s Aria?”
“She’s sleeping,” Riley whispered, sitting up and clutching the sheet to her chest. “She hasn't coughed in hours. Mr. Harrison... I don't know how to thank you. Last night was... I feel like I’m dreaming.”
“You’re safe here, Riley,” Michael assured her, walking further into the room. “Nobody is going to hurt you or Aria.”
Olivia climbed uninvited onto the edge of the bed, holding up a stuffed teddy bear. “I named him Barnaby. He’s going to protect Aria while she gets better.”
Riley’s eyes welled with tears. She pulled Olivia into a brief, fierce hug. “Thank you, sweet girl.”
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the suite swung violently open.
Mrs. Gable stood in the doorway, her face pale, trembling slightly as she clutched a thick stack of official papers.
“Mr. Harrison,” Mrs. Gable said, her voice shaking. “You... you need to come to the front foyer immediately.”
Michael frowned, stepping out into the hallway. “What is it, Mrs. Gable?”
“It’s not just security,” she whispered, horror in her eyes. “There are four state troopers at the gates, accompanied by a social services supervisor and a county bailiff. They have an emergency judicial ex parte order.”

Riley’s blood ran completely cold. She stumbled out of bed, clutching the blanket around her shoulders, her face draining of all color.
“They found us,” Riley choked out, her voice turning into a scream of pure terror. “They’re here to take my baby!”
