Chapter 5 - THE JUDICIAL AMBUSHWithin two minutes, Michael strode down the grand staircase, his jaw clenched so hard a muscle ticked furiously in his cheek.

Standing in the marble foyer were four grim-faced Washington State troopers, a clipboard-wielding CPS supervisor named Brenda Vance (no relation to Arthur, but cut from the exact same corrupt cloth), and a county bailiff holding a stamped legal document.
“Mr. Michael Harrison?” Supervisor Vance demanded, her tone dripping with bureaucratic self-righteousness. “We have an emergency custody pickup and search warrant issued by Judge Miller. File number 99-JC-412.”
Michael stepped down the final step, positioning himself squarely between the foyer and the East Wing hallway. His voice was a low, terrifying growl.
“You are standing on private property without an appointment, Supervisor. Hand me that order.”
He snatched the papers from her clipboard. His eyes scanned the legal jargon, and as he read, his blood boiled.
Petitioners allege the minor child Aria Evans is being harbored in an illicit, hazardous environment by an unfit, transient mother suffering from severe psychological distress, assisted by an unauthorized third party utilizing undue financial influence.
“This is complete garbage!” Michael roared, balling the paper in his fist. “This petition is filled with malicious fabrications! Who signed this?!”
“Judge Miller signed it based on sworn affidavits establishing imminent danger,” Supervisor Vance replied coldly, gesturing to the troopers. “Troopers, secure the premises and retrieve the infant. Social services is taking protective custody immediately.”
“Step one inch closer and I will personally sue every single one of you into bankruptcy before lunch!” Michael shouted, his presence towering and commanding.
Before the troopers could draw their batons, a door clicked open behind Michael.
Riley stood at the top of the grand staircase.
She wasn't shaking anymore. In her arms, she held little Aria, who was awake and clutching her pink blanket. Riley’s eyes were dry, burning with the terrifying clarity of a mother who had nothing left to lose.
“Don't touch him,” Riley’s voice echoed through the high-ceilinged foyer, steady and lethal.
She walked slowly down the stairs, stopping three steps above Michael.
“You want me?” Riley asked, looking straight into Supervisor Vance’s eyes. “You want to call me unfit because I slept on a concrete sidewalk to keep her warm while corporate monsters stole everything my family owned? Go ahead. Take me. Put me in cuffs.”
She gently kissed Aria’s forehead, tears finally breaking free.

“But if you touch my daughter... I swear to God, I will burn your entire corrupt system to the ground.”
Supervisor Vance scoffed, signaling the troopers forward. “Insolence won't save you, girl. Seize the child!”
