Chapter 6 - The Boardroom AmbushThe executive boardroom on the 50th floor of Whitaker Capital was silent except for the low hum of the air conditioning. The mahogany table stretched out like a runway, surrounded by leather chairs occupied by the firm’s senior partners—including Richard Whitaker, a silver-haired man with cold blue eyes and an expensive watch that ticked like a death clock.

Richard was leaning back, swirling scotch in a crystal glass, when the heavy oak doors swung open.
Nathan walked in.
He didn't look like a man who had spent the previous evening shopping on Madison Avenue. He looked like an executioner. He walked to the head of the table, sat down without a word, and tossed a thick manila folder onto the polished wood.
Richard chuckled, taking a sip of his scotch. "Good morning, nephew. I trust you're here to explain why our retail division received a blistering corporate reprimand from Verelle’s parent company at 6:00 AM?"
Several senior partners shifted uncomfortably in their seats.
Nathan didn't blink. He simply slid the manila folder across the table toward his uncle.
"Open it, Richard," Nathan said quietly.
Richard frowned, sensing the shift in the room's temperature. He set his glass down, picked up the folder, and flipped it open.
As his eyes scanned the first page—a forensic accounting audit detailing the illegal asset stripping of Ellison Global three years prior—the color drained completely from Richard’s face. His hands began to shake.
"What... what is this?" Richard stammered, looking up. "Where did you get this?"
"Does it matter where I got it?" Nathan asked, his voice cutting like glass. "What matters is that every single document in that file has already been forwarded to the Department of Justice, the SEC, and the New York Times."
Panic flared in Richard’s eyes. He slammed his hands on the table, standing up so fast his chair screeched against the floor.
"You're out of your mind!" Richard shouted, his face turning purple. "You're destroying this firm! You're destroying our family over some defunct shell company from Chicago?"
"That shell company was stolen," Nathan said, standing up to match his uncle's height. The sheer, overwhelming presence of the CEO silenced every partner in the room. "And the woman you robbed of everything she had... is my wife."
The boardroom dropped into a dead, suffocating silence.
Richard stared at his nephew, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "Your... your wife? Who the hell is your wife?"
The heavy oak doors opened once more.
Footsteps echoed softly across the carpet.
Claire walked into the boardroom. She wasn't wearing her faded denim jacket or her old sneakers. She wore a sharp, tailored black Armani pantsuit, her dark blond hair styled in sleek waves, her posture straight and untouchable.

She walked past the terrified senior partners, stopped beside Nathan, and looked straight into Richard Whitaker’s horrified eyes.
"Hello, Uncle Richard," Claire said, her voice dropping the room’s temperature by ten degrees. "Remember me?"
