Chapter 18 - The Final Resolution


Back in Connecticut, spring had fully painted the estate in vibrant shades of green and gold.
The foundation was thriving, the legal threats from the Sterling syndicate were permanently erased, and Lucas and Leo were busy building their remote-controlled model airplanes with their father on the lawn.
I sat on the front porch with a cup of warm chamomile tea, watching the evening sun dip below the horizon.
My phone buzzed gently on the wooden table. I picked it up and opened the secure terminal interface.
Server purge complete, Miss Morgan, our IT director reported. All residual data links associated with Richard Sterling have been neutralized. Global network status: 100% secure.
I smiled, locking the screen and slipping the phone into my pocket.
The door behind me opened softly, and Vincent stepped out onto the porch, holding two freshly baked chocolate chip cookies on a small ceramic plate.
“Thinking about the foundation?” Vincent asked gently, sitting down on the wooden swing beside me and handing me a cookie.
“Just thinking about how far we’ve come,” I whispered, leaning my head against his shoulder.

Vincent wrapped his arm around me, pulling me close as we watched the twins chase each other across the grass, laughing without a single shadow of fear hanging over their heads.
We had finally found our permanent home, and nothing in this world could ever take it away from us.
