Chapter 3 - THE HIDDEN MECHANISMBy 2:00 p.m., Sterling Senior, Daniel’s powerful real estate mogul father, pulled up to the school in a black Mercedes SUV, tearing up the freshly manicured lawn near the flagpole. He slammed the car door shut and stormed into the main office like a tornado in a tailored suit.

"Where is he?!" Arthur Sterling roared, shoving past the receptionist. "Where is my son?! Who dared touch my boy?!"
Principal Miller stepped out of her office, looking exhausted. "Arthur, calm down. Daniel is at the precinct. He’s being processed for felony criminal mischief and assault."
"I don't give a damn what you call it!" Arthur barked, pulling out his phone. "I’m calling the police chief right now. This school exists because of my tax write-offs! I want that girl expelled, and I want those cops suspended!"
"You might want to check your email before you make that call, Mr. Sterling," a calm voice rang out from the doorway.
It was Emma. She was standing in the doorway of the office, holding a clear plastic bag containing the broken neck of the guitar. Her knuckles were wrapped in white bandages.
Arthur spun around, glaring at her with pure disgust. "You. You set my son up. You think you can extort my family with some sob story about a broken toy?"
"It wasn't a toy," Emma said, stepping inside and closing the heavy door behind her. "And I didn't set Daniel up. He chose to smash it. He chose to break the hollow acoustic chamber of my mother's old guitar."
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, rectangular object—a micro SD card encased in resin, coated in fine wooden dust. It had been sealed inside the reinforced heel block of the instrument for over six years.
Arthur’s face instantly lost every drop of color. His hand, holding his phone, dropped to his side.
"My mother wasn't just a musician, Mr. Sterling," Emma said softly. "She was your accountant before she died in that 'accidental' car crash in 2020. She knew you were skimming millions from the district's construction grants. She hid the digital ledgers where no one would ever look—inside the instrument she played every day."

Arthur took a threatening step toward her. "Give me that card."
"It's already uploaded," Emma replied, looking straight into his eyes without flinching. "The moment Daniel smashed the guitar, the internal pressure switch cracked. The encrypted files were auto-sent to the FBI's regional fraud division forty-five minutes ago."
