Chapter 7 - THE UNEXPECTED TWISTThree months later.

The trial of Arthur Sterling was making state history, but Daniel’s juvenile hearing was held in a smaller, closed courtroom.
Stripped of his designer clothes, wearing a plain orange jumpsuit, Daniel sat beside a court-appointed public defender. His father’s high-priced lawyers were long gone, refusing to represent the family after Arthur’s bank accounts were completely frozen by the federal government.
Emma sat in the front row of the gallery, alongside Ms. Parker.
The judge pounded her gavel, bringing the room to order. "Before I pronounce sentencing on the charge of felony property destruction and obstruction, I will hear the victim’s impact statement."
Emma stood up, smoothing her skirt, and stepped up to the podium. She looked at Daniel, whose shoulders were slumped, his spirit entirely broken. He didn't look like a bully anymore; he looked small, weak, and utterly defeated.
"Your Honor," Emma began, her voice echoing through the quiet courtroom. "When Daniel broke my guitar, he thought he was destroying my pride. He thought he was proving that power belongs to those who take it by force."
Daniel squeezed his eyes shut, preparing for the crushing verbal blow he believed was coming.
"But I didn't bring that guitar to school by accident that day," Emma continued.
The judge paused, looking up from her papers. "What do you mean, Miss Vance?"
Emma turned toward Daniel. "I knew Daniel would break it."
A sharp intake of breath filled the courtroom.
"I spent seven months observing him," Emma explained calmly. "I studied his temper, his need for an audience, his complete inability to resist an easy target. I knew that if I brought something precious to school and made myself look completely vulnerable, his ego wouldn't allow him to walk past me."

Daniel looked up, his eyes wide with absolute horror.
"I didn't just hide the evidence inside that guitar six years ago," Emma said, her voice dropping into a razor-sharp whisper that chilled everyone in the room. "I brought it to school that exact Thursday because I knew the federal investigation needed a reason to seize Arthur Sterling's assets immediately without triggering a heads-up leak from Uncle Richard. I used Daniel’s own cruelty as the trigger mechanism."
