CHAPTER 2 – THE REVENGE NO ONE SAW COMING
For two weeks, Emma pretended nothing had happened.
She smiled.
Cooked dinner.
Packed Daniel's lunches.
Kissed him goodbye every morning.
Meanwhile...
She hired a private investigator.
What came back wasn't just an affair.
It was an entirely different life.
Daniel had secretly purchased another house five years earlier.
He had transferred nearly half their savings into hidden accounts.
He even planned to divorce Emma after their youngest finished elementary school.
But the biggest betrayal wasn't the money.
It was the truth.
The other woman had no idea Emma existed.
Daniel had told both women they were his only family.
He had been living two marriages at once.
Emma didn't confront him.
Instead, she invited everyone to Daniel's upcoming 40th birthday party.
His parents.
His coworkers.
His closest friends.
Even the mysterious woman... anonymously.
Daniel walked into the ballroom wearing a confident smile.
He had no idea his world was about to collapse.
Just before the birthday speech, Emma dimmed the lights.
A giant screen lit up behind her.
"Before we celebrate," she said calmly, "I'd like everyone to watch a short video honoring my wonderful husband."
The first few photos showed happy family memories.
Everyone applauded.
Then the slideshow suddenly changed.
Pictures from the secret phone.
The hidden vacations.
The second house.
The other children.
The love messages.
The room fell completely silent.
Daniel's face turned white.
The other woman slowly stood up from her seat.
She stared at Emma...
Then at Daniel.
"You told me your wife died seven years ago."
Gasps echoed across the ballroom.
Daniel tried to explain.
No one listened.
His parents walked away in tears.
His business partners quietly left.
The woman took her daughters and disappeared without saying another word.
Emma thought justice had finally been served.
But later that night...
The private investigator called again.
"Mrs. Carter... there's something even bigger."
"What could possibly be worse?"
A long silence followed.
"The little girls aren't Daniel's biological children."
Emma stopped breathing.
"If they're not his..."
The investigator answered softly.
"Then whose family has your husband really been protecting all these years?"
