CHAPTER 5 – THE SHOCKING TRUTH: SOPHIE WAS NEVER THE TARGET... EMMA WAS.

The front door crashed open.

Glass exploded across the floor.

Three armed men stormed into the living room.

Emma instinctively pulled Sophie behind her.

Lily clung to her mother's arm, crying in terror.

Daniel stepped between them and the intruders.

"Take me," he shouted.

"Leave them alone."

The tallest man smiled coldly.

"We're not here for you anymore."

He slowly raised his finger...

And pointed directly at Emma.

"We're here for her."

Emma froze.

"What?"

The stranger pulled a thin folder from his coat and tossed it onto the coffee table.

It slid across the wood before stopping in front of Emma.

Her hands trembled as she opened it.

Inside were dozens of photographs.

Some were taken twenty years ago.

Some only weeks earlier.

Every single picture was of her.

As a little girl.

As a teenager.

On her wedding day.

Holding newborn Lily.

Even shopping alone at a grocery store.

Someone had been watching her...

For her entire life.

"Who are you?" Emma whispered.

The man ignored the question.

Instead, he looked at Daniel.

"You should have handed her over years ago."

Daniel clenched his fists.

"I made a promise."

"You broke it."

The man nodded toward Sophie.

"Which is why she had to come find her mother herself."

Emma looked from Daniel to Sophie, unable to understand.

"My mother?" she asked.

"I've never even met this child before."

Sophie slowly reached into the pocket of her jacket.

She pulled out an old silver necklace.

Emma gasped.

It was identical to the one she had worn since childhood.

The only thing her late mother had ever left her.

Sophie opened the pendant.

Inside was half of a tiny broken photograph.

Emma instinctively reached for her own necklace.

With shaking hands, she opened it.

Inside was the other half.

When the two pieces were placed together...

The picture became complete.

It showed a young woman holding two newborn baby girls.

One was Emma.

The other...

Was Sophie.

Emma's breathing stopped.

"We're..."

Sophie nodded through tears.

"Twins."

Daniel lowered his head.

"I wanted to tell you."

"But your father begged me never to."

Emma stared at him in disbelief.

"My father died twenty years ago."

Daniel looked directly into her eyes.

"No."

"He didn't."

"He disappeared."

The room fell silent.

Then the leader of the armed men laughed.

"Amazing."

"You still believe Richard Carter is dead."

Emma's heart nearly stopped.

"What did you say?"

The man smiled.

"Your father has been alive this entire time."

"And tonight..."

"He's finally coming home."

At that exact moment...

The sound of a helicopter echoed above the house.

Bright searchlights flooded every window.

Outside, dozens of black vehicles surrounded the property.

A man stepped out of the helicopter.

His face was hidden beneath the shadows.

Daniel whispered only three words before turning pale.

"He's here..."
