CHAPTER 1 — THE BRIDE WHO ESCAPED HER OWN WEDDING

At exactly 3:07 a.m., someone pounded on my apartment door so violently that I thought the building was on fire.
When I opened it, my daughter collapsed into my arms.
Her white wedding dress was ripped from shoulder to hem. Blood dripped from the corner of her mouth. Purple fingerprints wrapped around both wrists. One shoe was missing, and her veil hung from her hair in torn strips.
"Sofia!"
She didn't answer.
She simply buried her face against my shoulder and whispered through trembling lips.
"Mom... they wouldn't let me leave."
Every instinct inside me screamed.
I pulled her inside, locked every door, and wrapped her in a blanket while dialing for an ambulance.
She grabbed my wrist.
"No hospitals..."
"They'll find me."
Those words froze the room.
After several minutes, she finally found enough strength to speak.
"It wasn't strangers."
"It was Javier's family."
Hours earlier, everyone had admired the fairy-tale wedding.
Crystal chandeliers.
Luxury ballroom.
Hundreds of smiling guests.
A billionaire honeymoon suite.
Behind every photograph was a nightmare.
After the reception, Javier kissed her forehead.
"I'll be right back."
He never came back.
Instead, the hotel door opened.
His mother, Carmen, entered first.
Behind her walked six elegantly dressed women carrying champagne glasses as if they had arrived for another celebration.
One of them quietly locked the door.
Carmen smiled.
"Marriage begins with trust."
Then she slid a thick folder across the table.
Inside were transfer documents.
Every page handed Sofia's luxury condominium to Javier's family.
"Sign."
Sofia pushed the papers away.
"No."
The smile disappeared.
Without warning—
CRACK!
The first slap knocked her against the bed.
The women laughed.
"You'll learn."
The second slap came harder.
Then another.
And another.
Sofia counted because counting was the only thing keeping her conscious.
One...
Five...
Twelve...
Twenty-three...
Thirty-one...
Forty.
Between every slap they repeated the same sentence.
"A wife owns nothing."
"A husband owns everything."
When Sofia still refused to sign, they dragged her into the bathroom and locked her inside for hours without food or water.
Through the door she heard Javier laughing.
Then she heard words that shattered her heart forever.
"Mom..."
"Just don't bruise her face too badly."
"We still need wedding photos tomorrow."
Silence filled my apartment.
I couldn't breathe.
Neither could she.
Finally she whispered the sentence that made my blood run cold.
"They said if I ever told the police..."
"...I'd disappear before sunrise."
For years I had avoided calling my ex-husband.
Alexander and I hadn't spoken since our bitter divorce.
But there was one thing everyone knew.
He loved Sofia more than he loved himself.
I dialed.
When he answered, I only said one sentence.
"Your daughter came home beaten on her wedding night."
He didn't ask who.
He didn't ask why.
He simply replied,
"I'm coming."
Thirty-five minutes later, Alexander walked through my door.
The moment he saw Sofia's injuries, he knelt beside her.
He gently lifted her bruised hand.
Then something unexpected happened.
He smiled.
Not with happiness.
With certainty.
Very quietly he said,
"Carmen has no idea whose family she just attacked."
Then he stood up...
Opened his phone...
And canceled something worth nearly two hundred million dollars.
May you like
By sunrise...
The revenge had already begun.
