CHAPTER 2 — THE EMPIRE THAT COLLAPSED BEFORE BREAKFAST

At six o'clock the following morning, Carmen poured herself fresh coffee, convinced she had won.

She expected Sofia to return crying.

Instead...

Her phone exploded with calls.

One contract canceled.

Another investor withdrew.

Banks froze pending approvals.

Suppliers refused deliveries.

Within one hour, Javier's family's construction company lost nearly every major project it depended on.

No one explained why.

Then an emergency board meeting was called.

Executives stared silently as Alexander entered the conference room.

Most people knew him only as Sofia's estranged father.

Few knew his real business.

For twenty-five years he had quietly controlled the investment group financing nearly half the city's luxury developments.

Including every project Carmen's family owned.

Alexander placed a wedding photograph on the conference table.

Beside it...

Medical photographs of Sofia's bruises.

He spoke only once.

"My daughter entered marriage with hope."

"You returned her covered in blood."

He looked around the room.

"I don't negotiate with cowards."

Then he stood.

"Terminate every contract."

The room obeyed.

By noon...

Javier's company shares crashed.

Luxury cars were repossessed.

Credit lines disappeared.

Their mansion was seized by the bank.

Still...

Carmen refused to apologize.

Instead she held a press conference.

She claimed Sofia was mentally unstable.

She accused her of inventing the assault to steal family assets.

Television stations repeated her lies.

Social media attacked Sofia without mercy.

Even worse...

Javier appeared beside his mother.

Holding her hand.

Smiling for cameras.

"My wife is emotionally fragile."

"I only wanted to help her."

Watching the broadcast from my apartment, Sofia broke down.

"They believe him..."

Alexander quietly muted the television.

"No."

"They believe the story."

"But stories change."

Then he opened an old leather briefcase.

Inside was a tiny black flash drive.

"I hoped I'd never need this."

"What is it?" I asked.

Alexander looked directly at Sofia.

"Insurance."

He had suspected Carmen from the very beginning.

Months before the wedding...

He had secretly hired private security.

Every luxury suite in that hotel came equipped with cloud-backed security cameras.

Including hidden hallway cameras.

Every person entering.

Every person leaving.

Every minute recorded.

Including...

The moment Carmen walked into the suite.

And the moment Javier gave his mother permission to "teach her."

Alexander smiled for the first time.

"They wanted a public battle."

"So let's give them one."

May you like

But none of us realized...

The video would expose something even darker than assault.
