Chapter 6 - The Trap Closes

The hospital solarium was quiet, save for the distant hum of traffic far below.

I closed my laptop, cutting off the live feed to the Holloway Global boardroom. I let out a long, shuddering breath. The adrenaline that had sustained me through the confrontation was beginning to fade, leaving a dull, aching thud in my chest where the stitches from my emergency C-section pulled against my skin.

A gentle hand touched my shoulder. I looked up to see Dr. Hayes smiling softly down at me.

"You're a remarkable woman, Elena," Dr. Hayes said softly. "The hospital administration just called. Your insurance policy has been fully reinstated—with retroactive coverage. And the administrative review on your triplets has been permanently dismissed. They are legally registered under your exclusive guardianship."

Tears, hot and unbidden, finally spilled over my eyelashes.

"Thank you, Doctor," I choked out, a wave of profound relief washing over me. "Can I... can I hold them now?"

"They're waiting for you in NICU," Dr. Hayes replied, wheeling my chair around.

When I entered the NICU, the nurses gently lifted three small, swaddled bundles and placed them against my chest one by one. Leo, Liam, and Lily. Their skin was soft as rose petals, their breathing steady and strong. I buried my face in their tiny blankets, weeping not from sorrow, but from the fierce, unbreakable realization that we had survived.

We had made it through the fire.

Outside the hospital gates, however, the storm was only beginning.
