Chapter 10 - ASHES TO EMPIRES (THE FINALE)The underground parking garage was a maze of echoing concrete pillars and flashing red emergency lights.
We sprinted toward a black armored SUV idling near the exit ramp, Emily holding Lily tightly in the back seat while Cassandra took the driver's seat with chilling precision. I stood outside the passenger door, covering our rear as a fresh wave of mercenaries poured out of the stairwell doors.
I raised my rifle and laid down suppressive fire, forcing them back behind the concrete pillars.
"Get in, Daniel!" Cassandra screamed over the roar of the engine.
I dove into the passenger seat just as Cassandra slammed the accelerator to the floor. The heavy SUV surged forward, smashing directly through the security barrier and bursting out into the freezing Chicago night.
As we sped away down the highway, I looked back through the rear window.
In the distance, the city skyline shimmered under the cold moonlight. Victoria Kincaid was behind bars, her corporate empire lay in ruins, and the shadows of the past had finally been dragged out into the blazing light.
Emily rested her head gently on my shoulder, while little Lily slept peacefully in her arms, completely unaware of the storm we had survived.
