Chapter 10 - The Unbroken LegacySix months later, the autumn leaves had turned to brilliant shades of copper and gold across the manicured lawns of the Bennett family estate on the outskirts of Columbus.

From the second-floor balcony of the manor, the view stretched out across acres of quiet gardens, pristine woodlands, and the distant, gleaming spire of Bennett Tower piercing the morning sky.
I stood at the railing, holding six-month-old Elena in my arms.
She was dressed in a soft cream-colored sweater, her bright, curious eyes taking in the golden sunlight filtering through the maples. She pointed a tiny, chubby finger toward a blue jay darting across the garden, letting out a delighted gurgle.
"That's a bird, sweetheart," I murmured, smiling down at her as I adjusted her pink woolen cap. "Pretty, isn't it?"
Footsteps crunched softly on the gravel pathway below.
I looked down and saw Marcus walking toward the patio steps, carrying a thick leather portfolio under his arm, accompanied by my mother, who was holding a basket of freshly cut roses.
Marcus looked up, catching my eye, and waved with a broad, triumphant grin.
"The global quarterly earnings report just cleared, Charlotte!" Marcus called out, his voice carrying clearly up to the balcony. "Bennett Technologies is officially the top-performing tech infrastructure firm in the Midwest! And the federal settlement from the Carter liquidation has been fully processed into the family trust!"
I smiled back, shaking my head lightly. "File it under long-term growth, Marcus! Today is a holiday."
"A holiday?" Marcus laughed, walking up the steps onto the patio. "What are we celebrating today?"
I looked down at Elena, who flashed a toothless, brilliant grin up at my face, her tiny hands reaching out to grab my necklace.
"We're celebrating the fact," I said softly, letting the autumn wind carry my words across the quiet gardens, "that some foundations are built so deep, not even the fiercest storm can ever touch them."
My mother stepped onto the balcony beside me, slipping her arm through mine and resting her head gently on my shoulder as we watched the sun climb higher into the infinite blue sky.

The past was a locked door. The future was an open horizon.
And our story had only just begun.
