Chapter 7 - THE UNEXPECTED ALLYJust as the guard reached out to grab Maya’s bag, the heavy double doors of the hospital room swung open with a resounding bang.

“I wouldn't touch that bag if I were you,” a deep, commanding voice echoed through the room.

Everyone froze.

Standing in the doorway was a tall, sharply dressed man in his late fifties with silver-streaked hair, wearing an expensive designer overcoat. Behind him stood Dr. Lawson, accompanied by three Riverside Medical Center security officers and—to my absolute shock—the hospital’s chief legal counsel.

Robert’s attorney frowned, adjusting his glasses. “And who are you supposed to be? This is a legally binding family court order. Unless you want to be held in contempt—"

“Contempt?” the silver-haired man interrupted, stepping into the room with an aura of absolute authority that commanded immediate silence. He pulled a pristine leather folder from his coat and flipped it open. “My name is Arthur Sterling. I am the senior partner at Sterling & Vance Corporate Law... and more importantly, I am the lead independent investigator appointed by the Board of Directors at Robert’s own firm.”

Robert’s face instantly lost every single trace of color. The smug smirk vanished, replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated terror.

“A... Arthur?” Robert stammered, his voice pitching high and panicky. “What... what are you doing here? This is a family matter—"

“A family matter?” Arthur Sterling sneered, stepping closer to Robert until he was towering right over him. “Robert, you absolute fool. Did you really think you could commit insurance fraud, falsify corporate compliance documents, and hide a multi-million-dollar liability from the board without us finding out?”

The room went dead silent. Maya stopped crying. I stared at Arthur in sheer disbelief.

“The executive partnership audit didn't just flag your application, Robert,” Arthur continued, his voice echoing coldly across the room. “When our compliance team dug into your digital footprint to investigate why your family medical history file was mysteriously altered three months ago, we uncovered the truth. You knowingly withheld a critical medical diagnosis to artificially inflate your compliance score for the twenty-million-dollar equity payout.”

“That’s... that’s a lie!” Robert shrieked, backing away until his back hit the wall. “It’s a clerical error! Prove it!”

Arthur pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket and tossed it onto the bed right in front of Robert.

“That is a signed confession from your personal assistant,” Arthur said smoothly. “She admitted that you ordered her to delete the original hospital follow-up notification from her email server three months ago, and threatened to fire her if she ever spoke of it.”

Robert stared at the paper as if it were a venomous snake. His entire empire—his career, his money, his status, his freedom—was collapsing around him in a matter of seconds.
