Chapter 8 - THE TABLES TURN“As for this so-called family court order,” Arthur continued, turning his attention to Robert’s high-priced attorney, who was now quietly trying to back toward the door. “My legal team woke up a federal judge an hour ago and presented undeniable proof that Mr. Vance obtained this emergency transfer order through fraudulent misrepresentation and perjury, hiding the ongoing criminal investigation into his insurance fraud.”

The judge’s emergency order was instantly nullified. Riverside Medical Center’s legal counsel stepped forward, flashing a cold smile at Robert’s lawyer.

“Furthermore,” the hospital attorney added crisp, “Mr. Vance is now officially trespassed from all premises of Riverside Medical Center, effective immediately. If he takes one more step toward this patient or this room, local law enforcement will arrest him on the spot for felony endangerment and medical obstruction.”

The two private security guards who had been pinning me against the wall immediately released my arms, stepping back and looking sheepishly at Dr. Lawson.

I didn't waste a single second. I shoved past them, rushed to Maya’s bedside, and pulled my daughter into a fierce, protective hug. She buried her face in my neck, crying tears of sheer relief.

Robert looked around the room like a trapped animal. Every single door was blocked. Every ally had abandoned him.

“Elena... please,” Robert whimpered, turning to me with pathetic, desperate eyes, his voice cracking. “Think of our family! Think of everything we built together! You can't let them do this to me—!”

“We didn't build anything, Robert,” I said, looking straight into his eyes with absolute, unyielding coldness. “You built a house of cards on top of our daughter's life. And now it’s finally crashing down.”

Arthur Sterling nodded to the hospital security guards. “Escort this criminal off the premises. Now.”

Four burly security guards grabbed Robert by his expensive suit jacket. He thrashed, screamed, and begged as they dragged him out of the room, his voice echoing down the hallway until the heavy double doors slammed shut, cutting him off completely.

The silence that followed was heavy, but this time, it felt like clean air after a suffocating storm.

Dr. Lawson stepped forward, checking Maya’s monitor with a reassuring smile. “She’s stable, Elena. The danger of the mass has been completely neutralized by the surgery, and her recovery is going to be one hundred percent smooth from here on out.”

I closed my eyes and whispered a silent prayer of gratitude. We had survived.
