Chapter 4 - THE TWISTED WILL

The SUV pulled into an abandoned warehouse on the edge of the city’s industrial docks. The massive steel doors slid open, allowing the vehicle to roll inside before closing with a heavy hydraulic thud.

Inside, the warehouse had been converted into a high-tech hideout, equipped with wall-to-wall monitors, encrypted servers, and a small medical bay.

Arthur, the old driver, handed Victor a tablet while Evelyn sat on a leather sofa, carefully laying Sophie down and wrapping her in a warm blanket.

"Talk to me, Arthur," Victor ordered, pacing across the polished concrete floor.

"It's bad, sir," Arthur reported in a low, gravest tone. "Thirty minutes ago, a press release was issued from Hale Global Headquarters. Victoria has officially declared you mentally unfit and accused you of orchestrating the kidnapping of your own daughter with an accomplice—Evelyn Vance."

"She turned the tables on us," Victor spat, punching the metal wall. "She's using the media to make me look like a unstable father who lost his mind!"

"There's more," Arthur continued, tapping the tablet screen. "The police have issued an emergency red notice. Every officer in the state is looking for this vehicle. And... the board of directors has called an emergency vote for 8:00 AM tomorrow to strip you of your voting shares."

Evelyn walked over, her face pale. "Why is she doing this? Why now?"

Victor looked at her, his jaw tight. "Because of my father's will. My father, Marcus Hale, was a monster. He built an empire on blood, extortion, and secret deals. When he died four years ago, his will stated that control of Hale Global would pass to me—on one condition."

"What condition?"

"That I produce a biological heir who carries the Hale bloodline before my 35th birthday," Victor explained, looking down at his shoes. "My 35th birthday is tomorrow at midnight. If I don't have a legally recognized, living heir present at the board meeting, every single share defaults to Victoria."

Evelyn gasped as the pieces finally began to assemble in her mind.

"She didn't just steal my baby to give you an heir," Evelyn whispered, horrified. "She wanted a baby with a flaw. A child who couldn't talk, couldn't reveal the truth, so she could control the child and control you!"

"Precisely," Victor said, his voice cold as ice. "Victoria knew that if Sophie never spoke, she could eventually claim the child was incompetent, declare me an unfit guardian, and take total control of the company."

"And tonight... when Sophie spoke her first words..." Evelyn stared in shock. "...she ruined Victoria's entire plan."

"Sophie didn't just speak," Victor said, looking at Evelyn with a sudden, sharp intensity. "She recognized you. Which means her trauma wasn't caused by a medical defect at birth."

"What do you mean?" Evelyn felt a chill run down her spine.

Victor walked over to a secure terminal and pulled up a set of encrypted video files labeled 'CLINIC SANCTUARY - NURSERY CAMERA 2023'.

"For the last two years, Sophie was kept in a private medical facility owned by Victoria," Victor said, pressing play. "I was only allowed to visit her twice a week due to 'quarantine protocols' established by Victoria's medical team."

The video flickered to life. It showed a small, dark room with no windows. A young woman in a doctor’s coat was standing over a crib where a tiny baby was crying.

The doctor was holding a syringe. But next to her, watching with a cold, unblinking glare, was Victoria.

"If this child ever remembers her real mother," Victoria’s voice recorded clearly on the speaker, "increase the dosage of the amnesiac suppressant. She must remain a silent doll until Victor signs over his power of attorney."

Evelyn covered her mouth, a horrified scream escaping her throat. "They were drugging my baby?!"

"They were suppressing her memory," Victor said, his eyes burning with lethal fury. "They forced her into silence. But tonight... when she saw your face, when she smelled your presence... her brain broke through the chemical wall."

"Those bastards!" Evelyn shrieked, tears of pure rage filling her eyes. "I will tear her apart with my bare hands!"

"No," Victor said, grabbing her shoulders, his voice dangerously calm. "We won't just tear her apart. We are going to destroy her entire world. Tomorrow morning, at the board meeting... we walk into that room together."
