Chapter 7 - The Final VerdictSix months after the wedding that shook Mexico City, the trial of The People vs. Octavio and Mateo Robles came to its dramatic conclusion in the Federal District Court.

The courtroom was packed with journalists, financial analysts, and several of the small-business owners who had been financially ruined by the Robles family's years of fraudulent practices.

Octavio Robles sat at the defense table, looking twenty years older, his expensive tailored suits replaced by a stiff prisoner’s uniform that hung loosely on his shrunken frame. Mateo sat beside him, his eyes bloodshot, staring blankly at the polished wooden floor, refusing to look up at the flashing camera lights in the gallery.

At the prosecution table sat Renata Hernández. She wore a sharp, midnight-blue designer suit, her posture immaculate, radiating calm, untouchable power. She wasn't just a witness or a victim anymore; she was a principal stakeholder of justice.

The presiding judge, a stern magistrate with decades of experience, adjusted his glasses and looked down at the thick stack of legal briefs before him.

“After reviewing all evidence, financial ledgers, digital forensics, and testimonies provided by both the federal banking commission and primary creditors, this court has reached a definitive verdict,” the judge announced, his voice echoing through the silent courtroom.

“On the charges of corporate fraud, multi-million-peso asset concealment, illegal signature forgery, and systemic tax evasion...”

Octavio closed his eyes.

“...this court finds the defendant Octavio Robles Guilty on all counts. He is sentenced to twelve years in federal prison without parole, alongside full seizure of any remaining hidden domestic or international assets.”

A collective gasp rippled through the gallery. Twelve years for a man of Octavio’s age was essentially a life sentence.

The judge then turned his gaze toward Mateo.

“On the charges of wire fraud, conspiracy, corporate document falsification, and witness intimidation...”

Mateo gripped the edges of the wooden table so hard his knuckles turned completely white.

“...this court finds the defendant Mateo Robles Guilty on all counts. He is sentenced to fifteen years in federal prison.”

The gavel came down with a sharp, thunderous CRACK.

Bang.

The sound echoed through the courtroom just like the slap that had started it all six months ago—only this time, it wasn't an innocent woman being struck down, but an entire dynasty paying the ultimate price for its arrogance.

As federal marshals stepped forward to snap handcuffs onto Octavio and Mateo, Mateo frantically turned his head, his eyes locking onto Renata in the front row.

He mouthed a desperate, silent plea: “Renata... please...”

Renata didn't flinch. She didn't smile. She simply looked at him with quiet, absolute indifference—the ultimate executioner of a man who had thought he could rule the world by stepping on others.

As the guards dragged the Robles men away toward the holding cells, Renata stood up, smoothed her jacket, and walked out of the courtroom into the bright, blinding afternoon sun.
