Chapter 7 - THE FINAL REVELATIONThe next morning, while Harrison was downstairs taking an urgent corporate call, Claire was helping Grace pack her small suitcase in the bedroom.

Grace reached into her plush bear’s backpack, pulling out a small, faded blue envelope.

"Miss Claire?" Grace asked softly.

"Yes, sweetie?"

"My mommy gave me this letter before she went to the hospital," Grace said, handing the envelope to Claire. "She told me to give it to the person who made my daddy smile again."

Claire stared at the letter in shock. Her name was written on the front in delicate, elegant handwriting: To Claire.

Claire’s hands shook as she opened the envelope. Inside was a handwritten note from Harrison’s late wife, Sarah, written weeks before her death:

Dear Claire,

If you are reading this, it means my husband and daughter have found you. I met your mother years ago at the community clinic where she worked as a nurse. She told me about her brilliant, kind daughter who worked double shifts as a waitress to support her family.

I knew my illness would take me soon. I knew Harrison’s family would try to control his life, and I knew Grace would shut down. In my final will, filed secretly with my private attorney, I named you as Grace’s official legal guardian alongside Harrison.

I knew you were the only one who could save them. Thank you for loving my family.

Tears spilled over Claire’s lashes, falling onto the paper.

Sarah hadn't died leaving behind a broken family—she had left behind a hidden bridge, guiding Claire into their lives from the very beginning.
