Chapter 3 - The Blood PactEthan didn't hesitate. Three years of grief transformed in a single second into white-hot rage and survival instinct.

He grabbed the hard drive, shoved the locket into his pocket, and whistled quietly to the wolf. "Inside! Go!" he hissed.

The heavy beast scrambled into the kitchen just as a flashbang grenade shattered the front window, exploding in a blinding flash of white light and deafening thunder.

[ KITCHEN REAR ] ---> ETHAN & SHE-WOLF ESCAPE TO BASEMENT

Ethan hurled himself down the basement trapdoor, dragging the wolf with him just as automatic gunfire shredded the wooden cabin walls above. Splintered wood and dust rained down on them.

In the pitch-black basement, Ethan reached for his emergency supply crate, pulling out a flare and a key to the old coal chute that led out into the ravine behind the house. He struck the flare, illuminating the small room in a harsh, crimson glare.

The she-wolf collapsed onto a pile of old blankets in the corner. Her flanks heaved violently. The trauma of the icy water, combined with the stress of the attack, had triggered her labor.

"Not now... please, not now," Ethan whispered, dropping to his knees beside her.

The wolf bared her yellow teeth, but her eyes held a frantic plea. She pressed her paws against the ground, whimpering as the first contraction hit her. Outside, heavy combat boots stomped across the floorboards directly above their heads.

"Clear the main floor! Check the basement!" a voice ordered.

Ethan looked at the heavy oak trapdoor above. It wouldn't hold for more than thirty seconds. He looked back at the dying wolf. He couldn't leave her. Whatever secret she carried, whatever connection she had to his "dead" daughter, was the only key to the truth.

Ethan grabbed a heavy crowbar, jammed it under the basement support beam, and pulled with all his might. The ancient wood cracked. He kicked the beam free, causing the central floorboards of the cabin above to cave in with a roaring crash, burying the tactical team under heavy timber and debris.

Amidst the dust and screams from above, a soft, wet sound echoed in the basement.

The first pup was born.
