Chapter 7 - CHECKMATEThe ballroom erupted into instant chaos.

Cameras flashed from the press corps stationed near the back. Gasps echoed off the crystal chandeliers as the audio recording continued to play, detailing the fifty-million-dollar embezzlement scheme, the offshore shell accounts, and the direct conspiracy involving Apex Global Ventures.
"Turn that off!" Viktor Sterling roared, his face contorted in blind fury as he lunged toward the audio control panel.
Before he could take two steps, Detective James Vance and two federal cyber-crime agents stepped out from the wings of the stage, badges gleaming under the lights.
"Viktor Sterling, you are under arrest for corporate espionage, wire fraud, and grand larceny," James announced loudly, his voice cutting through the uproar. "And Tabitha Sterling, you are detained as an active co-conspirator."
Tabitha let out a piercing shriek, stumbling backward into a waiter carrying a tray of appetizers, sending glasses and plates crashing to the floor. "Uncle Viktor! Do something! Make them stop!"
Viktor Sterling stood frozen, surrounded by federal agents, his corporate empire unraveling in front of the entire city’s elite. He glared at me with pure venom, his voice trembling with suppressed rage. "You think this makes you clever, old woman? You can't prove a wire transfer was authorized without my signature—"
"Actually, Viktor," I interrupted, stepping closer and pulling a sleek tablet from my handbag, "the wire transfer was authorized just thirty seconds ago."
I tapped the screen, displaying a live banking confirmation.
"Only, instead of hitting your offshore shell company in the Cayman Islands, the fifty million dollars was rerouted through an automated federal recovery protocol directly back into the Harrington charitable foundation accounts."
Sterling stared at the screen, his knees finally weakening as the full weight of his defeat crashed down upon him.
Robin stood beside me, his expression calm and composed, watching the woman who had tried to destroy our family being handcuffed by federal agents. Tabitha wept openly mascara running down her cheeks, her designer gown dragging in the spilled champagne on the floor as officers hauled her toward the exit.
The media cameras flashed relentlessly, capturing every single second of their downfall.

As the doors closed behind the disgraced executives, the ballroom fell into a stunned, breathless silence. I turned toward the crowd of shocked socialites, offered a polite, serene smile, and raised my glass of sparkling water.
"Thank you all for coming to the celebration," I said calmly. "The party is officially over."
