Chapter 7 - THE MILLION-DOLLAR JUSTICEThe Showdown at Cascade DowntownAt exactly 8:00 PM, the grand opening of the Cascade Downtown flagship store was in full swing. Hundreds of wealthy guests, board members, and reporters filled the glass atrium.

Alexandra Reed stood on the raised stage, her smile radiant under the flashing cameras.
“Cascade has always been about family,” she announced into the microphone. “And tonight, as we partner with the Vanguard Group, we ensure our family grows stronger, more profitable, and more secure than ever before.”
The crowd applauded.
Suddenly, the heavy glass doors of the entrance swung open.
Matthew Reynolds walked in.
He was dressed in a tailored black suit, looking every bit the billionaire titan he was. Beside him, holding his hand, was Lily Stevens. She wore a clean blue coat, her hair neatly brushed, her face calm and proud.
The crowd gasped. Reporters began shouting questions, their cameras flashing rapidly.
“Mr. Reynolds! Are the kidnapping charges true?”
“Are you stepping down as CEO?”
Alexandra’s smile stiffened, but she didn’t lose her composure. She stepped down from the stage, flanked by two security guards.
“Matthew,” she whispered, her voice dripping with venom. “You brought the child. How theatrical. Sign the papers in the back room, and we can end this little drama.”
“No,” Matthew said, his voice carrying across the quieted room. “We’re doing this right here. In front of everyone.”
He walked up to the podium, pulling a thick stack of documents from his jacket.
“Tonight, Cascade is indeed changing,” Matthew said into the microphone, his voice echoing through the massive store. “But not in the way Alexandra Reed planned. I have here the official DNA results and the legacy trust documents left by my father, Richard Reynolds.”
He pointed to the giant screen behind the stage, which suddenly flickered, replacing the Vanguard logo with a series of medical denial forms and banking transactions.
“Alexandra Reed has spent the last six months systematically denying medical coverage to my sister, Sarah Stevens, who holds fifty-one percent of this company’s shares,” Matthew announced, his voice like thunder. “She did this to force a hostile takeover and line her own pockets with Vanguard’s money.”
The room erupted into chaos. Board members stared in horror at the screen.
“This is a lie!” Alexandra screamed, her face contorting with rage. “He’s insane! Security, remove him!”
The security guards stepped forward, but they were stopped by four federal agents who had just entered the store.
“Alexandra Reed,” the lead agent said, presenting a warrant. “You are under arrest for corporate fraud, attempted murder through systemic medical deprivation, and bribery.”
Alexandra looked around wild-eyed, realizing her empire had crumbled in a matter of seconds. As the handcuffs clicked around her wrists, she glared at Matthew.
“You ruined everything!” she shrieked. “For what? A sick woman and a worthless street child?”
Matthew looked down at Lily, who was smiling up at him.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the single quarter. He held it up for the cameras to see.
“No,” Matthew said, his voice filled with a deep, emotional warmth. “For the best investment I’ve ever made.”
Epilogue: A Family That StaysThree months later, the Seattle rain was still falling, but inside the Reynolds penthouse, the air was warm and filled with the scent of fresh pine.
Sarah Stevens, her cheeks pink with health after receiving the best medical treatment in the country, sat on the sofa, a blanket over her lap. She watched as Lily ran across the room, chasing a golden retriever puppy.
Matthew walked over, holding two cups of tea. He handed one to Sarah.
“She’s happy here,” Sarah said softly, her eyes shining with tears of gratitude. “I don't know how I can ever repay you, Matthew. You saved my life. You saved her.”
Matthew smiled, sitting down beside his sister. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a beautifully polished wooden frame. Inside, mounted on velvet, was a single, scratched quarter.
“You don't owe me anything,” Matthew said, looking at the coin. “The bill has already been paid in full.”
Lily ran over, throwing her arms around both of them.

“We’re a family now, right?” she asked. “A real one?”
“Yes, Lily,” Matthew said, hugging them both close. “A real one. And this time, nobody is going to leave.”
