CHAPTER 2 — THE SECRET THAT COULD DESTROY THE SALVATIERRA EMPIRE

The darkness inside the hotel suite felt heavier than the storm outside.
For several seconds, nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Rodrigo stood in front of the door, his body tense, protecting Camila and Valentina behind him.
Two years ago, he had lost his wife because he trusted the wrong people.
He would not make that mistake again.
Not tonight.
Not when his daughter was finally in his arms.
A faint light from the city entered through the curtains.
Camila whispered:
“Rodrigo… we need to leave.”
He looked at her.
“Who are they?”
Her eyes filled with memories she tried desperately to bury.
“The men who guarded the house where they kept me.”
Rodrigo’s jaw tightened.
“You saw their faces?”
“Yes.”
“Then they can identify you.”
Camila nodded slowly.
“And that’s why I was never supposed to survive.”
A loud bang interrupted them.
Someone had kicked the door.
Valentina woke up crying.
Camila immediately covered her mouth with her hand, trying to calm her.
“Shhh… baby…”
Rodrigo looked at his daughter.
A wave of anger passed through him.
Someone had frightened his child.
Someone had made his wife live in terror.
Someone had stolen two years of his life.
And now they were standing outside his door.
Thinking he was still the weak man they controlled.
They were wrong.
Rodrigo pulled out the second phone.
He pressed one button.
A message appeared:
“Security team activated. Estimated arrival: 90 seconds.”
Camila stared at him.
“You planned this?”
Rodrigo looked at her.
“I spent two years preparing for the day someone tried to take my life apart again.”
Another hit came against the door.
This time stronger.
A voice shouted:
“Mr. Salvatierra! Open the door!”
Rodrigo smiled coldly.
“They still think I’m afraid.”
Camila grabbed his hand.
“Rodrigo, you don’t understand.”
Her voice cracked.
“Your mother is not just dangerous.”
“She is patient.”
“She doesn’t make mistakes.”
Rodrigo looked at her.
“What did she do to you?”
Camila lowered her eyes.
And for the first time that night…
Rodrigo saw something worse than fear.
Guilt.
“She told me you chose her.”
Rodrigo froze.
“What?”
Camila swallowed.
“When they kidnapped me, they showed me photos.”
“Photos of you and your mother.”
“They told me you knew everything.”
Rodrigo stepped back.
“No…”
“They said you were tired of me.”
“That you wanted control of the company.”
“That I was only a problem.”
Rodrigo felt his chest tighten.
“Camila, I would never…”
“I know.”
She looked at him.
“But at that moment, I was alone, pregnant, locked in a room, and I had no idea if I would ever see you again.”
A tear fell from her eye.
“So I believed them.”
Rodrigo slowly approached her.
“No one should have gone through that.”
Camila looked away.
“I gave birth alone.”
Those words destroyed him.
Rodrigo closed his eyes.
His daughter had entered the world…
And he wasn’t there.
He wasn’t holding Camila’s hand.
He wasn’t hearing her first cry.
He wasn’t protecting them.
A man who controlled thousands of employees suddenly felt powerless.
Then…
The door opened.
Not because they broke it.
Because someone on the inside unlocked it.
Rodrigo turned sharply.
The handle moved.
A man stepped inside.
But he wasn’t one of the attackers.
He was wearing a security uniform.
“Mr. Salvatierra…”
Rodrigo recognized him.
One of the hotel employees.
But something was wrong.
The man smiled.
“I’m sorry.”
Then he raised a weapon.
Camila screamed:
“Rodrigo!”
The lights turned on.
But before anything happened…
A gunshot echoed.
The next few seconds felt unreal.
Camila closed her eyes.
Valentina cried.
Rodrigo stood frozen.
But the bullet never reached him.
Because someone had stepped between them.
The man who entered the room collapsed.
Behind him stood an older woman holding a gun.
Rodrigo stared.
“Who are you?”
The woman lowered the weapon.
Her eyes were filled with tears.
“Someone who failed to protect Camila once.”
Camila looked at her.
Then her face changed.
“No…”
The woman removed her glasses.
“Hello, Camila.”
Camila covered her mouth.
“Mariana?”
Rodrigo looked confused.
“Who is Mariana?”
Camila whispered:
“She was my mother’s assistant.”
The woman nodded.
“Not anymore.”
Rodrigo stared.
“What is happening?”
Mariana looked at him seriously.
“Your mother has been hiding something much bigger than Camila’s disappearance.”
Rodrigo’s expression darkened.
“What?”
Mariana reached into her bag.
She pulled out a folder.
Inside were documents.
Bank transfers.
Photos.
Medical reports.
And one document with a signature that made Rodrigo’s blood run cold.
His mother’s signature.
Mariana said:
“Beatriz did not only try to steal your company.”
“She also tried to destroy your father’s legacy.”
Rodrigo opened the document.
His hands started shaking.
It was a private investigation report.
The last page contained a shocking statement:
"Subject: Rodrigo Salvatierra."
"Recommendation: Maintain psychological instability. Continue medication. Prevent access to company records."
Rodrigo looked up.
“She was controlling my medication?”
Mariana nodded.
“She wanted everyone to believe you were incapable of leading.”
Camila whispered:
“That’s why she kept telling you that you were broken after my death.”
Rodrigo remembered.
The pills.
The doctors.
The constant exhaustion.
The moments where he doubted his own decisions.
His mother wasn’t comforting him.
She was weakening him.
But then Mariana said something that changed everything.
“There is one more thing.”
Rodrigo looked at her.
“What?”
Mariana hesitated.
Then she opened another file.
“This is the reason Beatriz is desperate tonight.”
Inside was a DNA report.
Rodrigo stared at the name.
His face turned pale.
Because the report was not about Valentina.
It was about him.
Mariana whispered:
“Mr. Salvatierra…”
“Your father knew your mother would betray the family.”
“He left evidence.”
Rodrigo looked at the final line.
And his entire world collapsed.
BIOLOGICAL HEIR CONFIRMATION: INVALID.
He looked at Camila.
Then at Mariana.
“What does this mean?”
Mariana took a deep breath.
“It means…”
“Rodrigo Salvatierra may not be the real heir of the Salvatierra empire.”
Silence filled the room.
Outside, the storm continued.
But inside that suite…
Another storm had just begun.
Because if Rodrigo wasn’t the true heir…
Then who was?
And why had Beatriz spent 34 years protecting that secret?
Suddenly, Camila looked at Valentina.
Her face became terrified.
“Wait…”
Rodrigo turned.
“What?”
Camila whispered:
“Your mother knew about the baby.”
Rodrigo frowned.
“How?”
Camila’s voice shook.
“Because before they took me…”
“She said something I never understood.”
“What did she say?”
Camila looked at him.
“She said…”
“Your daughter will never inherit what belongs to my real child.”
Rodrigo felt his blood run cold.
“My mother has another child?”
Mariana slowly nodded.
“Yes.”
Then she revealed the name.
A name Rodrigo had never heard before.
A name that would destroy the Salvatierra family forever.
May you like
“Adrián Salvatierra.”
