CHAPTER 4 — THE MAN WHO RETURNED FROM THE DEAD

The rain continued falling over Mexico City.
But inside the Imperial Hotel suite, Rodrigo felt as if the entire world had stopped moving.
His father…
The man he had admired his entire life.
The man whose death he had mourned.
May not have died naturally.
For years, Rodrigo believed his father had suffered a heart attack during a business trip.
That was the official story.
The newspapers reported it.
The company accepted it.
The family moved on.
But now…
Everything was collapsing.
“Camila,” Rodrigo said slowly, “what exactly did Adrián tell you?”
Camila looked terrified.
She hugged Valentina closer.
“I never wanted to tell you.”
“Why?”
“Because I didn’t know who I could trust.”
Rodrigo stared at her.
“You can trust me.”
A painful smile appeared on her face.
“I thought that once.”
The words hurt him.
Because he knew what she meant.
Two years ago, she trusted him to protect her.
And he failed.
Not because he wanted to.
But because someone had carefully destroyed every piece of evidence.
Camila took a deep breath.
“The night I escaped, I was taken to another location.”
“Another house?”
“Yes.”
“It was different from the first one.”
Rodrigo frowned.
“What do you mean?”
“The first place was a prison.”
“The second place…”
She hesitated.
“Was a hiding place.”
Rodrigo looked confused.
“Someone was protecting you?”
Camila nodded.
“Adrián.”
The name sounded strange.
A brother he never knew existed.
A man erased from his own family.
“He found me after I escaped from the guards.”
Rodrigo clenched his fists.
“Why would he help you?”
Camila looked at him.
“Because he hated your mother.”
Years earlier…
Adrián Salvatierra had discovered the truth.
His mother had been stealing from the company.
But when he tried to expose her…
He disappeared.
Everyone believed he had run away.
But the truth was much darker.
Beatriz had arranged everything.
She paid people to make Adrián look unstable.
She spread rumors that he was dangerous.
She convinced everyone that he had abandoned the family.
Then she erased his name from every official record.
But Adrián survived.
And he spent years waiting.
Waiting for the right moment to return.
That moment came when Camila disappeared.
Because Adrián knew something Rodrigo didn’t.
Beatriz had been planning the destruction of the Salvatierra family for decades.
Rodrigo walked toward the window.
His reflection looked like a stranger.
“How much of my life was a lie?”
Camila approached him.
“Rodrigo…”
“No.”
He shook his head.
“I need to know.”
He turned around.
“My mother raised me.”
“She told me my father trusted her.”
“She told me I was the future of this company.”
His eyes became cold.
“But what if she was only preparing me to become her puppet?”
Nobody answered.
Because everyone knew the truth.
Suddenly, Mariana’s phone rang.
She answered.
Then her expression changed.
“What?”
Rodrigo immediately noticed.
“What happened?”
Mariana slowly lowered the phone.
“They found us.”
The room became silent.
“Who?”
“The police.”
Rodrigo frowned.
“The police?”
Mariana nodded.
“But not normal police.”
She showed him the message.
“Rodrigo Salvatierra is suspected of kidnapping an unknown woman and child. Arrest immediately.”
Camila’s face turned pale.
“She moved faster than we expected.”
Rodrigo understood.
His mother had already started the next phase.
She would not admit Camila was alive.
She would create another story.
One where Rodrigo was the villain.
“She wants everyone to believe I kidnapped my own wife.”
Mariana nodded.
“She knows the public will believe the first version they hear.”
Rodrigo looked at the city lights below.
For the first time in his life…
He felt hunted.
But then something changed.
He looked down at Valentina.
His daughter.
The child who had no idea how powerful the people fighting over her future were.
Rodrigo’s expression hardened.
“No more running.”
Camila looked at him.
“What are you going to do?”
He picked up his phone.
“I’m going to expose her.”
Twenty minutes later…
The doors of the hotel restaurant opened.
Everyone turned.
Rodrigo Salvatierra walked inside.
But he was no longer the broken man everyone expected.
His suit was still wet.
His eyes were still tired.
But something had changed.
Confidence.
Power.
The board members became silent.
Doña Beatriz smiled.
“There you are.”
Rodrigo looked at her.
His own mother.
The woman who buried his wife alive.
The woman who stole his daughter’s first years.
The woman who destroyed his mind.
“Mother.”
She smiled.
“You look better.”
Rodrigo sat down.
“I have something to discuss.”
Beatriz lifted her glass.
“I’m sure you do.”
The executives looked between them.
Then Beatriz calmly said:
“Before we begin, there is one matter.”
She placed a document on the table.
“Due to your recent emotional instability, the board has decided to temporarily transfer your authority.”
The room became quiet.
Rodrigo looked at the document.
Exactly what Camila predicted.
The final move.
She wanted him to sign away everything.
He smiled.
“You really thought I would sign this?”
Beatriz’s expression changed slightly.
“What?”
Rodrigo leaned forward.
“You spent two years making me believe I was weak.”
“You controlled my doctors.”
“You controlled my medication.”
“You controlled my information.”
The room froze.
One executive looked shocked.
Beatriz’s face finally lost its calm.
“Who told you that?”
Rodrigo smiled.
“My wife.”
For the first time…
Beatriz looked afraid.
“Impossible.”
Rodrigo stood.
“Because she’s dead?”
The entire room gasped.
Then the restaurant doors opened.
Everyone turned.
And there she was.
Camila Salvatierra.
Alive.
Holding Valentina.
The woman Beatriz buried.
The woman who was supposed to never return.
A whisper spread across the room.
“She’s alive…”
Beatriz stepped back.
Impossible.
For the first time in years…
She looked scared.
Rodrigo walked beside Camila.
Then he said:
“Ladies and gentlemen…”
“Allow me to introduce my wife.”
“And my daughter.”
The board members stared.
The cameras began flashing.
The entire hotel witnessed the impossible.
But before anyone could react…
A man’s voice came from the entrance.
“Interesting.”
Everyone turned.
A tall man stood there.
Older than Rodrigo.
With a scar across his face.
A man who looked exactly like the old family photographs.
Rodrigo froze.
Because he knew.
Everyone knew.
The impossible had just happened again.
The dead wife had returned.
And now…
The dead son had returned too.
“Hello, brother.”
Adrián Salvatierra smiled.
“I think it’s time our mother tells the truth.”
Beatriz dropped her glass.
It shattered on the floor.
Because the person she spent 15 years trying to erase…
May you like
Had just walked back into her life.
