CHAPTER 3 — THE BROTHER WHO WAS ERASED FROM HISTORY

The name echoed inside the hotel suite like a gunshot.
Adrián Salvatierra.
Rodrigo stared at Mariana, unable to understand what he had just heard.
“My brother?”
The woman slowly nodded.
“Yes.”
A strange silence filled the room.
Because Rodrigo had grown up believing he was an only child.
For 34 years, every birthday, every family event, every business meeting…
There had only been one Salvatierra heir.
Him.
“My mother never told me I had a brother,” Rodrigo said quietly.
Mariana looked down.
“Because she didn’t want you to know.”
“Why?”
The older woman took a deep breath.
“Because Adrián was the first heir.”
Rodrigo felt a chill.
“The first?”
“Yes.”
Mariana placed another folder on the table.
“Your father had a son before you were born.”
Rodrigo opened the file.
Inside were old photographs.
A young man standing beside his father.
A teenager receiving awards.
A child sitting on his father’s lap.
The resemblance was undeniable.
Adrián had the same eyes.
The same serious expression.
The same Salvatierra blood.
Rodrigo looked at Camila.
She was staring at the photos with disbelief.
“How could everyone hide this?”
Mariana answered:
“Because Beatriz erased him.”
Rodrigo’s fingers tightened around the documents.
“What does that mean?”
Mariana walked toward the window.
“When Adrián was 19, he discovered something about his mother.”
Rodrigo frowned.
“What?”
“She had been stealing from the company for years.”
The room became silent.
“She created secret accounts. She moved millions through fake companies. Your father discovered everything.”
Rodrigo looked at the documents.
“So my father confronted her.”
Mariana nodded.
“And that night, Adrián disappeared.”
Camila whispered:
“Disappeared?”
“No body was found.”
“No proof of death.”
“Just gone.”
Rodrigo looked toward the dark city outside.
Another person.
Another life.
Another secret his mother buried.
“How does this connect to me?”
Mariana looked directly at him.
“Your father believed Beatriz would eventually try to take control of everything.”
Rodrigo slowly understood.
“That’s why he changed the inheritance.”
“Yes.”
Mariana pointed to the documents.
“Your father added a condition.”
“If Rodrigo Salvatierra became unable to lead, control would pass to his legal wife.”
“Not Beatriz.”
“Not any other family member.”
“Camila.”
Rodrigo closed his eyes.
His mother hadn’t just wanted Camila gone.
She wanted the one person standing between her and the empire removed.
His wife.
His daughter.
And him.
A few minutes later, Rodrigo stood in front of the mirror.
For years, he believed he was weak.
He believed his father’s death had left him unprepared.
He believed his mother was the only person who protected him.
But now he understood.
She wasn’t protecting him.
She was controlling him.
The pills.
The isolation.
The fake sympathy.
Everything had a purpose.
A voice interrupted his thoughts.
“Rodrigo…”
He turned.
Camila was standing there holding Valentina.
“I’m sorry.”
His expression changed.
“For what?”
“For bringing chaos back into your life.”
Rodrigo walked toward her.
“Camila, you were never the chaos.”
He looked at his daughter.
“They stole my family.”
A tear escaped his eye.
“And I spent two years believing I lost you.”
Camila looked at him sadly.
“I wanted to come back.”
“Then why didn’t you?”
She hesitated.
Because the answer was something she had hidden for two years.
“Because they threatened you.”
Rodrigo froze.
“What?”
“The day I escaped…”
Camila’s voice trembled.
“I tried to contact you.”
“I called your office.”
“I called your private number.”
“But someone answered.”
Rodrigo stared.
“Who?”
Camila looked at him.
“Your mother.”
A cold feeling spread through him.
“She told me if I appeared again, you would die.”
Rodrigo clenched his jaw.
“She said she had people everywhere.”
“She said she could destroy you before you even knew what happened.”
Camila lowered her voice.
“And then she sent me proof.”
“What proof?”
“She showed me photos.”
Rodrigo’s face changed.
“Photos of what?”
Camila looked toward Valentina.
“Of someone watching you.”
Rodrigo stepped closer.
“Who?”
Camila whispered:
“Adrián.”
At that exact moment…
Inside the Imperial Hotel restaurant…
Doña Beatriz Salvatierra calmly drank her wine.
The board members around her were nervous.
Because Rodrigo had not arrived.
One executive cleared his throat.
“Mrs. Salvatierra, should we begin without him?”
Beatriz smiled.
“No.”
She looked at her phone.
“He will come.”
The executive hesitated.
“And the woman outside?”
Beatriz’s smile disappeared.
“She was never supposed to reach him.”
A man sitting beside her lowered his voice.
“We failed.”
Beatriz looked at him.
“No.”
Her voice was ice cold.
“We discovered something more valuable.”
The man frowned.
“What?”
Beatriz turned her phone around.
On the screen was a photo.
Rodrigo holding Valentina.
Her eyes narrowed.
“The girl.”
“She has the birthmark.”
The man looked confused.
“The birthmark?”
Beatriz smiled.
“The same one Adrián had.”
Silence.
Then she whispered:
“Maybe the Salvatierra bloodline didn’t disappear after all.”
Meanwhile, Rodrigo received a message.
Unknown number.
One sentence.
“If you want the truth about your family, come alone.”
Attached was a photo.
A man standing in the rain.
Older.
Scarred.
But alive.
Rodrigo’s hands froze.
Because he knew that face.
The face from the old photographs.
The face that belonged to the brother who supposedly vanished 15 years ago.
Adrián Salvatierra.
Another message appeared.
“Your mother lied to you.”
“Your wife knows only half the truth.”
“And your daughter is the key to everything.”
Rodrigo looked at Camila.
She immediately knew something was wrong.
“What happened?”
He turned the phone toward her.
When she saw the picture…
Her face went completely pale.
“No…”
Rodrigo stared at her.
“You know him?”
Camila slowly stepped back.
“I thought he was dead.”
“Camila…”
Her eyes filled with fear.
“He was the man who helped me escape.”
Rodrigo froze.
“What?”
She whispered:
“But before he disappeared…”
“He told me something.”
“What?”
Camila looked at Valentina.
Then at Rodrigo.
And said the words that changed everything:
“He told me your father never died naturally.”
Rodrigo stopped breathing.
Because if that was true…
Then his entire family history was a lie.
And the woman who raised him…
May you like
Was the person who destroyed everything.
