Chapter 1 - THE COCKPIT PANIC AT 35,000 FEET

Viral Title Idea: She called him "trash" in business class. Ten minutes later, the oxygen masks dropped, and she realized he was the only one who could save her life.

The change in the cabin pressure was subtle at first—just a sharp pop in the ears and a sudden, freezing chill that swept through the business-class cabin. But Daniel Carter didn't need sensors to know what was happening. His internal altimeter, forged through thousands of hours in supersonic cockpits, screamed that they were losing altitude. Fast.

Across the aisle, the woman in the cream-colored blazer glared at Daniel, annoyed by the sudden turbulence. "Can’t you keep your kid quiet?" she snapped, as Ethan whimpered, clutching his plastic F-22 jet. "Some of us are trying to work."

Daniel ignored her entirely. His eyes were locked on the forward galley.

Suddenly, a loud, metallic CLANG echoed through the fuselage. The aircraft shuddered violently, tilting hard to the left. The overhead compartments popped open. Backpacks and coats tumbled into the aisle.

Then came the terrifying sound of the oxygen masks dropping.

"Daddy!" Ethan cried, his small voice swallowed by the sudden roar of rushing air.

"Put it on, Ethan! Pull it down and breathe!" Daniel commanded, his voice dead-calm but carrying an authority that made the passengers around them freeze. With practiced efficiency, Daniel secured Ethan’s mask first, then donned his own.

Panic erupted. The woman in the blazer dropped her expensive laptop. It shattered on the floor right next to the toy she had discarded earlier. She fumbled wildly with her oxygen mask, her manicured hands shaking so hard she couldn't pull the yellow cup over her face. She looked across the aisle at Daniel, her eyes wide with primal, suffocating terror.

The elite, untouchable facade was entirely gone. She was just a frightened human being realizing her money couldn't buy oxygen.

Daniel didn't hesitate. Despite how she had treated his son, he unbuckled, lunged across the aisle, grabbed her mask, and securely strapped it to her face. She gasped, staring at him in shock.

"Stay down," Daniel ordered through his mask.

Just then, the cockpit door burst open. Rachel, the young flight attendant, was thrown against the bulkhead as the plane took another violent dip. She looked terrified, her face pale.

"Is there a doctor? Anyone with aviation experience?!" Rachel screamed into the cabin, her voice cracking over the sound of the wind shear. "The captain is unresponsive! The co-pilot is injured!"

The forty passengers in business class looked at each other in paralyzed silence. The woman in the blazer gripped her seat armrests, weeping into her mask.

Daniel stood up. The grease under his fingernails stood out starkly against the white fabric of the seatback. He looked at Ethan. "Stay here, Hawk Two. Keep your eyes on your jet."

Ethan nodded bravely, clutching the toy. "Go get 'em, Hawk One."

Daniel turned to Rachel. "I'm Major Daniel Carter, former USAF. Lead the way."
